Communications Manager At Oscar M. Lopez Center


The OML Center is looking for a Communications Manager that will lead the development and communication of key messages across various channels and platforms to drive awareness, understanding, and engagement of target audiences towards climate-resilient decision-making and action.

Responsibilities

  • Campaigns and Public Engagement
    • Oversee the integration, production, maintenance, and implementation of impactful and fit-for-purpose communication campaigns and public engagement activities
    • Supervise the development of content and design for various materials for public awareness and institutional branding
    • Oversee the Center’s print and online presence to ensure optimization of campaigns, channels, and content to generate interaction, increase brand exposure, and drive climate awareness
    • Manage and/or assist in the organization, coordination, and implementation of events, including advice on marketing and communication aspects of event
  • Strategic Communications
    • Develop and implement integrated and strategic communication plans, initiatives, systems, and policies aligned to the overall vision and strategy of the Center, coordinating with other units as necessary
      • Identify target audiences and develop relevant messaging on climate change and its impacts, and on building climate resilience
      • Identify and develop communication strategies and appropriate communication channels
      • Establish work flows for requesting, creating, editing, publishing, and retiring content
      • Periodically undertake communications audit and review of information environment
    • In collaboration with other units and external groups, ensure that communication outputs are user-centered with actionable advice to support the Center’s target publics in climate resilient decision-making
    • Manage the Center brand towards building and maintaining a strong Center reputation as thought leader in climate change discourse
  • User-centered Collaborations, Media Relations, and Issues Management
    • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and work closely with other functional entities within and outside the Communications Unit to ensure a coordinated and holistic approach to messaging on climate-related risks and building resilience
      • Co-develop, with internal and external actors, a framework for co-production to inform and guide Center’s user-centered approach to the development of communication outputs
      • Work with agency partners, in-house teams, and other groups critical to the implementation of programs and projects to improve the Center’s messaging
    • Maintain and develop links with local and international media outlets to facilitate communication and ensure fair and accurate coverage of the Center and wider sector activities
      • Manage and/or coordinate press relations and media-related activities to promote the Center, responding to media inquiries and advising Center leadership if needed
      • Assist in the development and implementation of communications strategies for key issues that can affect the Center, its non-profit and corporate families, or the climate change sector’s image
  • Administrative
    • Develop, oversee, and manage unit operations, staff and budgets
    • Prepare necessary reports and other documentation,
    • Assist in the preparation of the Annual Work and Financial Plan of the Center and in the conduct of periodic monitoring and evaluation of projects

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Development Communications, Marketing Communications, Public Relations, or related field.
  • At least seven (7) years experience in:
    • Communications/Marketing/Media Relations
  • At least three (3) years experience in:
    • Project Management, including budget management
    • Event Management
  • At least one (1) year experience in:
    • Social Media Management
    • Data Analytics
  • Experience in strategy development and implementation
  • Experience in managing a team in fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, to manage multiple communications initiatives concurrently
  • Basic understanding of climate change. An ability to confidently communicate with others on climate change is an advantage
  • Knowledge and/or experience working with the climate resilience space and familiarity with how climate change impacts different sectors and stakeholders an advantage.
