Organizational framework
The main objective of FAO country offices, headed by an FAO Representative, is to help governments develop policies, programs and projects to achieve food security and reduce hunger and malnutrition, help develop the agricultural, fisheries, forestry sectors and use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable way. This consultancy is part of the Project “ Poverty, Reforestation, Energy and Climate Change ( PROEZA ) ” whose main objectives are to improve the resilience of poor and extremely poor vulnerable households to the impacts of climate change and increase forest cover in areas environmentally sensitive in the Eastern Region of Paraguay.The project area comprises 70 municipal districts located in eight departments of the Eastern Region of Paraguay: Concepción, San Pedro, Canindeyú, Caaguazú, Guairá, Alto Paraná, Caazapá and Itapúa. These 70 municipal districts were selected for their high environmental and social vulnerability. PROEZA has three interrelated components: 1. Planting for the future, 2. Sustainable landscapes and responsible markets, 3. Good governance and law enforcement.
Hierarchical dependency
The consultant will be under the general supervision of the FAO Representative in Paraguay, under the supervision of the Assistant Program Representative and in close collaboration with the Specialist in information generation and monitoring.
Field of specialization
The consultant will be in charge of the construction and analysis of the CO2 equivalent balance, analysis of emissions and GHG capture and generation of geospatial products of the PROEZA project.
Tasks and responsibilities
The consultant must:
- Make the GHG estimate issued by the project afolur sector.
- Make the carbon estimate sequestered with the implementation of the project.
- Carry out the analysis of the results obtained, regarding carbon emissions and sequestration.
- Make a report with the data used as the basis for calculating the C02 balance sheet.
- Hold regular meetings with the EXACT team.
- Unify the data sheet, analysis and standardization of the information.
- Digitize polygons of the implemented agroforestry models, georeferencing, determine the total hectares of land or forest areas and identify the plots by agroforestry model, in order to obtain the total georeference hectares, inventoried and assigned by agroforestry model.
- Archive and systematize the maps generated in digital format in a database.
- Determine the current use of plantation model plots.
- Advise in relation to the methodology used for the generation of cartographic products, according to the required needs.
- Georeferencing points and polygons of the participants of the PROEZA project.
- Support in the various activities and tasks of PROEZA, related to the work area and object of this consultancy.
- Support the preparation of reports from the maps prepared.
THE CANDIDATES WILL BE EVALUED IN ARRANGE TO THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
Minimum requirements
- University degree in environmental, forest, agronomic engineering, biology or any related field.
- 1 year of relevant experience in climate change, measurement of carbon emissions.
- For Consultants: practical knowledge of Spanish ( level C ) and intermediate level of English ( level B ). For Personal Services Agreement ( PSA.BSB ): practical knowledge of Spanish ( C level ).
