We are looking for volunteers in The Hague who are passionate about Human Rights and international relations and are committed to contributing to positive change.
Thinking of You (The Hague, 2024) is an art installation created by the Kosovar Artist Alketa Xhafa-Mripa in collaboration with the Dr. Denis Mukwege Foundation, the Embassy of Kosovo in The Hague and the Municipality of The Hague.
Thinking of You is created to tackle and denounce sexual violence used as a weapon of war in armed conflicts, by raising awareness among citizens around the world. The installation will consist of dresses donated by survivors of sexual violence as well as human rights supporters in solidarity with survivors worldwide. Dresses have already been donated by high-ranking public figures, such as H. E. Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu, the President of Kosovo, H. E. Martin Bell, UK Unicef Ambassador, and Deputy Mayor of The Hague, Mariëlle Vavier.
The installation will take place in June in The Hague, the city of peace and justice, indoors in the Atrium of The Hague Municipality and outdoors in Lange Voorhout in the heart of the city. The volunteers will be needed between June 17th and 23rd during the daytime (09:00 to 19:00 hrs). The shifts will be organised according to the volunteers’ availability, but all volunteers are expected to do 3–4 shifts throughout the week, 5 hours each shift. The morning shift will be from 09:00-14:00 and the afternoon shift between 14:00 and 19:00.
Responsibilities:
- On 17th June volunteers will help to set up the art installation, by clipping the dresses with clothes pegs on the ropes. The ropes will then be secured to the trees in Lange Voorhout by a specialised company.
- From the 18th to 23rd June, volunteers will be at Lange Voorhout, and they will be providing information to the people visiting the installation, answering their questions and giving them promotional material (flyers, tote bags, among others).
- On 23rd June volunteers will help to take down all the clothes from the ropes and pack them.
Compensation:
- No financial compensation will be given to the volunteers. Meal vouchers for food and drinks will be provided for nearby cafés and restaurants. Volunteers will be given a T-shirt to wear during their shifts.
- At the end of the volunteering period, volunteers will be given a certificate of appreciation for their contribution on behalf of Artist Alketa Xhafa-Mripa, the Mukwege Foundation, The Hague Municipality and the Embassy of Kosovo.

Applications will be reviewed jointly by the Mukwege Foundation and the Embassy of Kosovo in The Hague.
Successful candidates will be notified by email within 7 working days after the deadline for submission and will be invited for a briefing on Tuesday 4th June at the Municipality of The Hague
