BBC Media Action, with funding from the Canadian Local Initiatives Fund, is opening nominations for Libyan female producers and journalists. This opportunity aims to empower Libyan female producers with the knowledge and skills necessary to create high-quality, impactful media content covering issues relevant to Libyan society, thus contributing to achieving a more equitable representation of men and women in the media sector in Libya.

Terms of reference for participation

This opportunity is available to Libyan female producers across Libya, who are between 20 and 30 years old, have a valid passport and can commit to the project timeline (see below).

Required: Skills, knowledge and experience:

Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields: graphic design, animation, film, journalism, photography, communications, or any related field OR equivalent field experience in journalism, photography, communications, or any related field

Not more than five years of professional experience in the field of media in the fields mentioned above

Proficiency in Arabic and English

1. This program does not accept applicants who have a prior history of political activity or are currently active, and who have any political affiliations.

2. Those who need a male companion to be able to travel are encouraged to participate. This will not affect the selection process of candidates, and only their personal files will determine the result.

3. Only 5 to 8 participants will be selected.

Eligibility criteria

This opportunity is available for Female Libyan producers across Libya, under the age group of 20 to 30 years old, who have a valid passport to travel and can commit to the project’s timeline (check below).

Required: Skills, knowledge, and experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields: Graphic design, Animation, Film, journalism, photography, communications or a related field, or equivalent field experience in journalism, photography, communications, or a related discipline.
  • Possess up to five years of professional experience in the field of media in the above-mentioned fields are eligible to apply.
  • Fluent in both Arabic and English.

Please consider the following notes before applying:

  1. This program does not accept applicants who were previously involved in political activity, who had any political affiliations, and who are currently politically active.
  2. Candidates that require a male chaperone to be able to travel are welcome to apply. This will not affect the process of candidates’ selection if their profiles meet the eligibility criteria.
  3. Only 5 to 8 female producers will be selected.
