Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of gender equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations (UN), is the UN entity dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women (GEWE).

Through the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) in Bangkok and a number of country and multi-country offices as well as programme presences across the region, UN Women builds on a long history of support to governments, civil society and other actors to promote gender equality and empower all women and girls. We stand behind women’s equal participation in all aspects of life, focusing on five priority areas: addressing gender perspectives in intergovernmental processes; women’s political participation and leadership; enhancing women’s economic empowerment; ending violence against women and girls; and promoting women’s participation in peace and security and humanitarian action.

UN Women aims to support the full, effective and gender-responsive implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the UN Security Council resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment (GEWE). UN Women recognizes the importance of a whole of society approach in this regard, including supporting engagement between Member State governments, civil society, academia, private sector and others as key stakeholders and partners in efforts on GEWE. This calls for the adoption of strategies which promote the engagement of diverse stakeholders, raise public awareness and understandings of GEWE issues, and promote increased political will and investments in this agenda to drive transformative change. It also requires an inclusive approach, recognizing the crucial role of men and boys as equal partners for women’s rights.

Reporting to the Head of the External Relations Unit, the Advocacy and Campaigns Coordinator will support UN Women ROAP in regional outreach and positioning initiatives, including serving as regional focal point for Generation Equality; coordinate the organization and implementation of advocacy events including the regional coordination of the commemoration of International Women’s Day, campaigns and initiatives including oversight of the 30 for 2030 youth leadership network; provide substantive inputs to regional strategic partnerships and advocacy strategies and products; coordinate regional dissemination and campaigning among UN Women Multi/Country Offices and Program Presences (M/CO/PPs) in the region. S/he will understand how effective project coordination will help deliver more impactful and creative external relationships, and better advocacy and campaign services to internal audiences, which will advance the UN Women mission at regional level.

The Coordinator will be supported by and supervise the Advocacy and Innovation/Youth Focal Point Consultant and the Creative Advocacy Design Consultant.
