The Independent Evaluation Office of the IMF (IEO) has an opening for an Advisor/Assistant Director in its office in Washington DC, to join its senior management team.

The IEO’s mission is to support the IMF Executive Board in its institutional governance and oversight, enhance the learning culture of the Fund, and strengthen the Fund’s external credibility. The Office operates independently of IMF management and at arm’s length from the Executive Board. Job Description:

The selected candidate will lead evaluation projects from conception to completion. They will take the lead in framing the purpose and scope of the evaluation, interactions with the Board, staff, and relevant stakeholders, discussion and communication of the evaluation report findings and recommendations. As project leader, the candidate will organize the work and guide the project team, with overall responsibility for the quality of the evaluation and its delivery within the expected timeframe and agreed budget.

The Advisor/Assistant Director will work under the guidance of the Director, and work closely with the Deputy Director, as part of the IEO management team. In this capacity, the candidate will also assist the Director in managing the IEO work program, providing strategic direction, and managing and supervising the staff.

The initial appointment will be for two years and can be extended for a period of up to 12 years.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have familiarity with the work of the IMF and the institution’s policies and practices. Substantial experience in preparing and delivering in-depth analytical studies is important. The candidate will be expected to have, or acquire early in the assignment, a familiarity with core evaluation techniques relevant to the work of the IEO. The candidate must have a demonstrated high level of analytical and empirical expertise, and excellent interpersonal and communications skills, which will be necessary for managing the IEO work program and staff. Other qualifications include a demonstrated strategic vision and intellectual leadership; a proven ability to motivate staff at all levels to deliver high-quality output; and strong planning and organizational abilities.

Ideal candidates would be those who have worked in a national agency, academic institution, or international organization (including the IMF) involved in the formulation, analysis, or evaluation, of international economic policies. The candidate should have completed an advanced university degree in economics with at least 15 years of professional experience working on economic policy issues in an international context and with strong supervisory/managerial experience.

Proficiency in English, the working language of the IMF, is required. Knowledge of other languages is desirable.
