Background:

The American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) was established in 1990 as a public service project of the ABA to promote the rule of law around the world and has implemented legal reform programs in more than 100 countries. Together with local partners in the public and private sectors, as well as civil society organizations, ABA ROLI designs programs that are responsive to local needs and that prioritize sustainable solutions to pressing rule of law challenges.

The Human Rights for All (HRA) Project, working in close alliance with civil society organizations, government entities, and other stakeholders, aims to strengthen the Guatemalan human rights system so that all citizens are respected and protected. Through advocacy, education, awareness-raising, and capacity building, the project will promote a culture of respect for human rights to foster the further development of Guatemala. The goal of the HRA project is to strengthen Guatemala’s human rights system.

Job Description:

The Program Associate (PA) works with ABA program teams in Guatemala and DC to support the activity implementation of the Human Rights for All program. The PA will primarily provide administrative and programmatic support, including but not limited to editing reports, supporting the monitoring of sub-awards, and supporting the logistical planning for trips, events, and meetings.

Location:

This position will be based in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the planning and coordination of travel, events, and workshops by preparing event and workshop forms.
  • Support the drafting and editing of programmatic reports, including but not limited to quarterly and annual performance reports, weekly highlights, and calendar of events.
  • Assist in the oversight and monitoring of grantee progress, including tracking schedules and deadlines per financial and program requirements.
  • Assist in the recruitment and onboarding of consultants, coordinate the scheduling of recurring check-in meetings, and review consultant deliverables.
  • Record, complete, and distribute meeting minutes for meetings where support is required, and support the follow-up of commitments that arise from the meetings.
  • Provide advanced administrative support to major projects, programs, and/or working groups as needed.
  • Performs other tasks as required by the team.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in law, political science, international relations, or other relevant field.
  • At least one year of experience as a technical or administrative assistant working on projects with international agencies, NGOs, or human rights organizations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Previous experience working in an office environment.
  • Fluency in Spanish (written and oral) is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in English.
  • A postgraduate degree in areas related to public law, human rights, or government.
  • Experience in preparing reports and supporting the drafting and execution of event coordination work plan activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform administrative and logistical tasks, follow procedures, and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Familiarity with human rights protection and access to justice-related issues in Guatemala.

Job Description:

The AP will primarily provide administrative and programmatic support, including but not limited to report editing, grant oversight support, and logistical planning support for travel, events, and meetings.

Location :

This position will be based in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the planning and coordination of trips, events and workshops by preparing forms for events and workshops.
  • Support the writing and editing of programmatic reports, including but not limited to quarterly and annual results reports, weekly summaries, and event calendar.
  • Help monitor and monitor grant progress, including tracking schedules and deadlines in accordance with financial and program requirements.
  • Assist in the hiring and incorporation of consultants, coordinate the scheduling of periodic control meetings and review the results of the consultants.
  • Record, complete and distribute the minutes of meetings in which support is required, and support the monitoring of commitments that arise from the meetings.
  • Provide advanced administrative support to large projects, programs and/or work groups, as needed.
  • Performs other duties required by the team.

Basic qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Political Science, International Relations or other relevant field.
  • At least one year of experience as a technical or administrative assistant working on projects with international organizations, NGOs or human rights organizations.
  • Dominio de Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel y Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Previous experience working in an office environment.
  • Proficiency in Spanish (written and oral) is required.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Mastery of English.
  • A graduate degree in areas related to public law, human rights, or government.
  • Experience in preparing reports and supporting the development and execution of event coordination work plan activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform administrative and logistical tasks, follow procedures, and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Familiarity with issues related to the protection of human rights and access to justice in Guatemala.
