ABA ROLI Guatemala Human Rights for All (HRA) Project – MEL and Communications Assistant
Background:
The American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) was established in 1990 as a public service project of the ABA to promote the rule of law around the world and has implemented legal reform programs in more than 100 countries. Together with local partners in the public and private sectors, as well as civil society organizations, ABA ROLI designs programs that are responsive to local needs and that prioritize sustainable solutions to pressing rule of law challenges.
The Human Rights for All (HRA) Project, working in close alliance with civil society organizations, government entities, and other stakeholders, aims to strengthen the Guatemalan human rights system so that all citizens are respected and protected. Through advocacy, education, awareness-raising, and capacity building, the project will promote a culture of respect for human rights to foster the further development of Guatemala. The goal of the HRA project is to strengthen Guatemala’s human rights system.
Job Description:
The Monitoring Evaluation and Learning (MEL) and Communications Assistant works with ABA program teams in Guatemala and DC to support the monitoring, evaluation, collaboration, learning, and adaptation activities such as data collection and analysis, ensure compliance with the Branding and Marking plan, request any Branding and Marking exemptions for specific activities in compliance with USAID processes, and ensure program results and outcomes are communicated in ways that are tailored to the appropriate audience(s).
Location:
This position will be based in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the MEL Manager and partners with collection and analysis of data associated with the program’s indicators;
Support the drafting of MEL deliverables;
- Engage with program partners to ensure indicator data, success stories, and other deliverables are completed and submitted on time and with sufficient quality;
- Support the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data related to the program’s indicators and targets;
- Update ABA ROLI’s MEL monitoring system with the program’s progress in output and outcome indicators;
- Support the MEL manager and program staff in preparing data for upload to the USAID MEL and data repository systems such as DEC, DDL, and TEAMS;
- Support training for staff and local partners on Monitoring and Evaluation tools, methodologies, and systems;
- Participate and ensure the timely preparation and design of MEL reports related to program implementation, this includes weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reports;
- Support periodic reporting and development of success stories in collaboration with technical teams;
- Support the collection of lessons learned based on executed activities;
- Create, design, edit, and produce communications publications and materials;
- Ensure compliance with the program’s Branding and Marking plan;
- Request Branding and Marking exemptions for specific activities in compliance with USAID processes;
- Support the ABA ROLI DC team to monitor and update the ABA website, create new web pages, post new publications such as newsletters, reports, and surveys;
- Create graphics and imagery for the website and update all relevant program materials;
- Assist in organizing program events and promotional efforts and collaborate with partners to optimize results;
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in political science, economics, international relations, applied mathematics, statistics, or other relevant field.
- At least three (3) years of mid-level experience in Monitoring and Evaluation.
- Experience in survey design, implementation, monitoring, and analysis.
- Previous work experience in graphic design, media, or publication.
- Experience in training partners and local staff in Monitoring and Evaluation and knowledge management initiatives.
- Experience with U.S. Government donors preferred.
- Knowledge of database management and data analysis.
- Proficiency with Microsoft (MS) Office applications.
- Intermediate to advanced MS Excel proficiency desirable.
- Strong writing skills.
- Fluency in English (intermediate).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in editing and producing publications.
- Previous work experience in an organization supporting international initiatives.
- Experience in supporting event coordination.
- Demonstrated ability to perform administrative and logistical tasks, follow procedures, and comply with regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with human rights protection and access to justice-related issues in Guatemala.
