Founded in 1981, Ayuda en Acción is a non-governmental, non-denominational and non-partisan organization with an international presence in more than 20 countries, including Spain, and with headquarters in Madrid.
Ayuda en Acción fights against the causes of poverty and inequality in populations, generating opportunities for young people to be and participate in the future of their communities, accompanying the different stages of their lives, focusing on education, training and integration into the labor market.
We create sustainable, safe, fair and equal environments so that communities have the right conditions to develop their life plans. To this end, we can support processes to promote rights, climate change adaptation and mitigation programs, and economic integration.
Ayuda en Acción has the financial support of more than 100,000 members in Spain, Mexico, Colombia and Peru and a diversification of multilateral, bilateral and private donors, managing a budget of 46 million euros with a multidisciplinary team of more than 400 people working on more than 100 active projects. This allows us to improve the lives of around one million people every year.
In the case of Colombia, Ayuda en Acción has been working since 2006, with a staff of 78 people and an annual budget of around 3 million euros. It is currently developing its programs to promote improved income and economic development by strengthening value chains and incubating and accelerating entrepreneurships with a focus on environmental sustainability, a program for the social and labor integration of the population in human mobility and promoting a culture of peace.
Objective of the position:
Lead the development of Ayuda en Acción’s presence in Colombia and, together with the regional and headquarters management team and the country, direct the development of programs and the organization of the teams and resources necessary to meet the objectives of the country strategy, as well as the identification, planning (strategic and operational), supervision and development of a financing plan to ensure the sustainability and financing of the different Ayuda en Acción programs in Colombia.
Main responsibilities:
- Lead the design and implementation of the Country Strategy in Colombia, ensuring direct contribution to the Institutional Strategy of Ayuda en Acción.
- Coordinate and monitor the management of the National Office in Colombia, guiding the teams, ensuring coherence, collaboration and learning and the achievement of the objectives set in the different lines of work included in the Country Strategy.
- Lead the development of strategic alliances with entities from the public and private sectors, both nationally and internationally, in order to promote and participate in the design of a portfolio of projects and participate in the coordination and design of projects to present to funders. Allocate resources from the country for the preparation of proposals requested by the areas of Corporate Financing and the Regional Hub.
- Identify potential funders, both international and local, that maximize financing opportunities for AeA.
- Lead the identification of new initiatives and opportunities that respond to the identified needs of the country strategy, as well as design innovative initiatives to present to calls for public and private donors.
- Design and implement an economic sustainability plan together with the Colombia and corporate teams.
- Provide advice and follow-up on projects in technical, financial and management aspects, developing and promoting relationships with local partners and other cooperation actors in Colombia.
- Represent Ayuda en Acción before national and international bodies, organizations, networks and coordination spaces in Colombia.
- Represent Ayuda en Acción within the framework of the alliance of European organisations, Alliance2015, both in the country and at regional level to achieve the objectives set for Colombia and Latin America.
Requirements
Knowledge and experience:
- At least 10 years’ experience working in the field of development cooperation and humanitarian action, of which 5 years as Country Director.
- Experience managing work teams.
- Experience in the design, implementation and monitoring of strategic plans and programs.
- Extensive knowledge of the context of Colombia and its links with other countries in the region.
- Knowledge of the legal and tax obligations that affect non-profit organizations in the country.
- Knowledge of development and humanitarian agencies in the humanitarian field and their policies and strategies.
- Experience in designing humanitarian programs and projects funded by international donors such as the United Nations System, EU (ECHO-DEVCO), USAID, CIDA, DFID and AECID, among others.
Languages:
- Essential: Spanish: Native/Bilingual.
- Valuable: English: C1 Advanced.
Geographical mobility
- National and International.

- Windows (Medium or Advanced)
- High knowledge of computer applications. Knowledge of Word and Excel is essential.
