Program Intern At ActionAid

JOB DESCRIPTION

SPA II PROGRAM INTERN
ActionAid is a global justice Federation working to achieve social justice, gender equality, and poverty eradication with headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa. ActionAid is working all around the world with country programs, affiliates, and regional offices, Today, ActionAid is present in 48 countries. ActionAid has been present in the Arab Region since the mid-2000s in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Tunisia. AAAR’s work is mainly focusing on the following program priorities:

– Women’s Rights, building feminist leadership to prevent and respond to violence against women and

girls.

– Youth and Community-led humanitarian action, Strengthening preparedness and crisis response

through women and youth leadership.

– Fostering civic and political engagement and increasing the employability of young people, fostering

young people’s agency to influence decision-makers and create opportunities.

– Climate Justice, raising awareness on climate change, fostering youth participation in climate action.

ActionAid Arab Region’s (AAAR) regional program aims to achieve Just, Feminist, Resilient, and Green societies through the active participation of young people, especially young women, in Lebanon, Northwest Syria, and Jordan. Despite having distinct local contexts, these countries share common challenges and opportunities. The region has experienced a prolonged displacement crisis with millions of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees. The deteriorating living conditions—exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic, economic decline, and catastrophic events like the Beirut Blast and war in Lebanon—have resulted in widespread multidimensional poverty. The region is witnessing a surge in youth and women-led organizations, advocating for gender equality and climate justice. Nevertheless, the lack of enforcement of existing climate policies, coupled with the socio-economic challenges faced by young people, particularly in terms of unemployment and shrinking civic space, remains a significant barrier to change. Through the SPA II project, AAAR seeks to address these complex and interrelated issues by fostering youth and women-led actions that contribute to the SDGs and climate justice agenda.
