Senior Project Lead – Can’t Wait to Learn Ukraine At War Child International


Overview

Can’t Wait To Learn is a best-in-class digital game-based learning application that is proven, co-created, and curriculum-aligned for education in emergency situations.

In the face of conflict, we know it is critical for children to regain control over their lives and rebuild their future. When the Ukrainian government requested War Childs support for an education-in-emergencies intervention we responded swiftly.

War Child built a new Can’t Wait To Learn learning app (online for the first time to reach more children than ever!) exclusively for Ukrainian children. It honors the curriculum, context and culture of Ukraine. Whether children are displaced within the borders of Ukraine, or are now refugees around the world, they can learn what would be taught in their home schools using words, sounds, pictures and inspiration drawn directly from their home. We collaborated with Ukrainian children and artists to create a learning world that honors their country, preserves their culture and fosters dreams for every child’s future.

The role

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate leader who can continue to drive this massively impactful project forward, continue to ensure this programme reaches as many Ukrainian children as possible and lead the existing team to ensure project success.

The Senior Project Lead is part of the CWtL team, reports directly to Can’t Wait to Learn Programme Director within the PQ, Scaling & Advocacy department. The job holder manages the Can’t-Wait to Learn Ukraine Response team and represents WCA to external partners and donors.

Multi-locational but with strong preference for Ukraine. If necessary, should be willing to be present at the War Child Alliance locations, travel to donor events and programme areas and have availability to work remotely within CET due to the nature of the work with existing teams and very short deadlines.

Your Challenge

  • Direct and manage the next phase of the Can’t Wait to Learn Ukraine response within the parameters agreed
  • Define, attract and motivate the necessary team members to achieve the agreed targets in time and on budget.
  • Direct the development and iterations of the project plan, quality standards, timeline, detailed budgets and milestones, in collaboration with internal stakeholders
  • Develop structured processes and guidelines to ensure smooth project management, implementation and monitoring.
  • Make decisions on budget management towards achievement of agreed plans, in collaboration with CWTL Programme Director and finance teams.
  • When necessary, attract and secure additional funding for the response.
  • Ensure submission of transparent, high quality and timely financial, narrative and face-to-face progress reports which meet WCA and donor quality standards
  • Develop and nurture strong partnerships with key stakeholders: the Ministry of Education and Digital Transformation, donors, implementing partners, to ensure fruitful collaborations that aim to exceed expectations of the response, and build a sound basis for future collaboration.
  • Identify and build new partnerships to enhance the CWTL Response, the War Child Ukraine Response and create concrete opportunities to fulfil the wider CWTL / War Child (scaling) ambitions.
  • Represent the organisation at relevant events, webinars, networks and sector groups.
  • Drive leads from high-level campaign around the launch of the CWTL Ukraine Response to enhance CWTL’s/War Child’s visibility and brand.
  • Ensure that all visibility requirements of War Child, donors, and partners are integrated and met.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Advocacy and Communications and the CWTL Marketing and communication Advisor, to identify opportunities to enhance CWTL’s/War Child’s positioning, profile, and reputation on Education Technology in emergency responses in line with the CWTL communications strategy and War Childs policies and branding guidelines.
  • In collaboration with War Child M&E teams and the R&D department, develop a monitoring, evaluation and research agenda that is aligned with the CWTL/War Child M&E framework, donors’ expectations, and the CWTL research agenda.
  • Lead the development of a corresponding MEL system.
  • Identify opportunities to generate additional insights to inform CWTL’s scaling strategy, War Child’s scaling ambitions and the wider EdTech sector.
  • Write high quality donor reports and plans.
  • An MA relevant to the role (eg Education, EdTech, Management).
  • Solid working knowledge about education in emergency settings.
  • Demonstrable experience in Social Innovation, pref. of Education Technology, and pref. in humanitarian or development settings (or low-resource environments)
  • Significant experience in high profile programme and project management of complex multi-stakeholder programmes.
  • Proven skills in programme development, writing narrative and financial donor reports and maintaining donor relations.
  • Knowledge and experience in M&E and research.
  • Passion and motivation to drive a demanding and high-profile project.
  • Fluency in English is required. Fluency in Ukrainian, Romanian, or Russian is desirable.
  • Possess the following transversal competencies: commercial skills, analytical capacity, networking, result orientation, cultural sensitivity, and flexibility

  • If the role is based in Ukraine, it will be offered using a consultancy agreement whilst office registration is being finalized
  • The salary range for the role on an Amsterdam contract is between 4602 – 5722 euro gross per month
