Medical Coordinator At Americares


Americares is seeking, under the supervision of the Program Director, the Medical Coordinator position to provide technical advice on health, mental health, and pharmacological issues to the medical teams at Americares clinics. The Coordinator will be responsible for systematizing Americares’ protocols and policies in the country, in accordance with internal guidelines, from the MSPS and from PAHO/WHO. In addition, the Coordinator will maintain communication with entities working in the health sector in Colombia, for all technical matters (MSPS, Health Departments, other health NGOs).

The Medical Coordinator will be responsible for, among others, the following functions:

  1. Organization and implementation of the entire medical component of the project.
  2. Review and update of the training plan for medical personnel aimed at improving primary health care, sexual and reproductive health and mental health
  3. Training of medical staff on primary health issues.
  4. Define, monitor and update the medical content of Americares policies, protocols and guidelines in Colombia in compliance with national standards, policies and protocols, adapting them to the requirements of local contexts.
  5. Planning and organizing various medical activities and representing Americares in the various medical forums and working groups of which the organization is a part at a central or local level.
  6. Define and identify other resources necessary to effectively achieve the medical objectives of the mission and that are aligned with national medical and health protocols.
  7. Provide technical advice to the Country Director and Deputy Country Director in developing new project proposals and the entire work plan.
  8. Advise the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer on the collection of clinical data and undertake their analysis from a medical perspective.
  9. Support the preparation of monthly (or weekly if necessary) reports for Americares on the services offered in primary health care and on the epidemiological situation in the country.Ratings:

  • Demonstrated and proven experience in community health and working with vulnerable populations.
  • Proven and proven experience working with international and local NGOs, public bodies, international organizations in the health sector.
  • Experience in developing internal policies, guidelines and internal protocols and procedures for an organization in the Health and Community Sector.
  • Ability to work in a team, as well as independently, based on results.
  • Availability to travel to any part of Colombia, where Americares projects are implemented and executed.
  • Dynamic, proactive, organized, flexible to adapt to change, creative and tolerant to work under pressure.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Colombian Health System.
  • This is a local position, for people who already have a work permit in the country.
