Operations Coordinator – Yaracuy At Association of Volunteers for International Service


1. Context

AVSI Venezuela is a Venezuelan non-profit organization, created in 2022, to improve the living conditions of people in vulnerable situations. We are a local organization that has been operating in Venezuela since 2000 and linked to the international context through a partnership with the AVSI Foundation, a non-profit, non-governmental organization that supports 355 development cooperation projects in 42 countries, with headquarters in Italy and which promoted the creation of AVSI Venezuela.

The School Meals Program and the Disability Inclusion Program contribute to ensuring food security in early childhood, primary, mixed and special education centers. In addition, these programs promote the inclusion of people with disabilities and strengthen the capacities of participants, improving access and permanence in schools. AVSI implements both projects as a partner of the World Food Program (WFP), which has established processes and activities that require coordination between various areas and actors. Through the Operations Coordinator , the efficient planning and execution of the activities inherent to each program will be guaranteed, according to its modality and the associated areas.

2. Object

AVSI Venezuela selects an Operations Coordinator , responsible for the implementation of both programs, who coordinates and plans the activities of the different areas and ensures that all members of the field office have programmatic information on the implementation, prepares corporate reports, programmatic reports, among others.

3. Description of functions

For the execution of the project, the Operations Coordinator will be responsible for:

  • Participate in meetings convened by PMA related to the distribution of school meals under any modality.
  • Prepare schedules and coordinate with your team the execution of field activities related to the School Meals Program – Disability Inclusion Program, including the formation of school meal teams (ECE), registration, kitchen maintenance, and the implementation of the served plate and take-home school meals modality, as well as the activities that are developed on the ground within the framework of the programs.
  • Training your organization’s members ensures that everyone gets the programmatic information.
  • Ensure coordination between activities related to food distributions and complementary activities.
  • Supervise technical and field staff during distributions, kitchen maintenance actions, communication, inclusion and nutrition activities, and registration of the School Meals Program (SMP).
  • Validate the Distribution Plans prepared for all applicable modalities.
  • Review, validate and submit municipal/state reports related to the implementation of the PCE.
  • Report the implementation of the programs to the State Coordinator.
  • Coordinate the implementation of the inclusion, diversity, gender and protection policy designed by PMA.

4. Key requirements and qualifications

Training: 3rd Level in Social Sciences; Economics; Law; International Relations; Social Work; or areas related to food security.

  • Mandatory experience required: Minimum 3 years in management or coordination of humanitarian aid and international cooperation projects. Experience in relevant topics such as Human Rights and Food Security is valued.
  • Skills: team management skills, ability to use the full Office package, results-oriented budget analysis and management and agile planning, knowledge of project cycle management tools (logical framework; planning matrix and indicator monitoring, financial matrix), knowledge of virtual platforms (Zoom, Google Teams, etc.).
  • Differential requirements: additional assessment of experience in the area of ​​protection and durable solutions, experience working with multidisciplinary teams, experience in projects funded by the United Nations, the European Union, among other international cooperation institutions.
  • Languages: Spanish (mandatory); English (desirable).
  • Food hygiene handling course and health certificate (essential).

  • Pedagogical ability and assertive communication for the adequate transmission of knowledge to different target populations.
  • Courtesy and tact in the performance of duties.
  • Social sensitivity for community work with different actors, which includes continuous support of processes.
  • Creativity and proactivity.
  • Efficient handling of Microsoft Office® at an intermediate level.

6. Coordination of work

The Operations Coordinator will report directly to the State Coordinator and the Director of AVSI Venezuela, based on the guidelines issued by the LATEAM Regional Office, the AVSI Foundation Headquarters in Italy and the World Food Programme (WFP).

7. Type of contract

  • Fixed-term contract.
  • Start date: October 1, 2024.
  • Completion date: August 31, 2025.

8. Workplace

The work will be carried out in the AVSI Venezuela office in Yaracuy, so residing in San Felipe or nearby cities is highly desirable; otherwise, availability to relocate to Yaracuy. Availability for occasional travel to other municipalities and/or states where the project is being carried out at a national level. Knowledge of the territory will be valued.
