Through innovative health programmes and advocacy actions that are based on evidence, the, we empower marginalized people and communities to act and claim their right to health while fighting for universal access to care.

OUR CHALLENGE

The/The Gender Fairness, Diversity, Inclusion Advisor (EDI) is responsible for strengthening the’integration of social justice principles according to the feminist intersectional approach in the projects of Doctors of the World (MoM) Canada. Based in the field in Niger while collaborating closely with the headquarters team, he/she plays a crucial role in the application of the principles of localization and decolonization of’aide. This position also facilitates engagement with local partners and feminist networks to promote best practices in’EDI.

Your main tasks will be the following (non-exhaustive and evolving list) :

  • Develop and integrate EDI strategies according to the feminist intersectional approach in project planning and execution
  • Conduct gender and equity analyses, using frameworks based on human rights and the intersectional feminist approach
  • Support teams in proposal development and report writing, ensure that data related to’EDI are properly collected and analyzed
  • Participate in project capitalizations and evaluations to ensure that initiatives respect and promote the principles of social justice
  • Develop capacity-building initiatives that enable local communities to become the main actors in their development
  • Develop and integrate new tools and approaches for the analysis and implementation of’EDI policies
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with local partners, institutions and communities to support and promote the integration of social justice principles
  • Initiate and pilot collaborative projects and leadership transfer initiatives with local organizations according to the principles of localization and decolonization
  • To strengthen mechanisms for community participation in the development, planning and evaluation of projects
  • Represent MdM in conferences, workshops and professional meetings, highlighting the innovations and commitments of the organization in the field of social justice
  • Provide training and capacity building for teams in the field and at headquarters on’EDI practices
  • Provide technical supervision to field-based gender and inclusion advisors
  • Participate in strategic planning and regular DOI meetings

OUR OFFER

  • Expat post unaccompanied based in Niamey, Niger with frequent field visits (30% of the time)
  • Contract of 2 years
  • Entry into office scheduled for September 2024
  • Remuneration according to the salary grid of MdM Canada (from 55 420 $ to 74 780 $ CA)
  • ’expatriation monthly allowances under the MdM Canada policy
  • Rest period (R&R) as per MdM Canada policy
  • 4 Weeks of vacation per year
  • Insurance (medical expenses, repatriation and pension)
  • Guesthouse accommodation

YOUR PROFILE

  • University degree in anthropology, sociology, feminist studies, public health or other relevant field.
  • Proven experience (at least 3 years) in gender equality, intersectional feminist approach in a humanitarian or international development context.
  • Experience working in the field, preferably in contexts similar to that of Niger and/or’Haiti.
  • Experience working with local organisations, knowledge of local feminist networks an asset.
  • In-depth knowledge of the issues related to’EDI and its strategies of’application and’integration
  • Strong interest in the principles of location and relocation of’aide.
  • Good knowledge of Canadian donors and the Canadian feminist international’aide policy, knowledge of’ other international donors an asset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Teams, Sharepoint)
  • French and English language proficiency (spoken and written)
  • Strong capacity for analysis and synthesis, and mastery of analytical frameworks related to’EDI (ASC+, rights-based approach, Care ethics, etc.)
  • Ability to develop feminist and inclusive outcomes and indicators
  • Ability to train and accompany the members of’a team and a keen sense of pedagogy
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, diplomacy and ability to interact effectively with a diversity of partners and colleagues at different levels of the organization
  • Excellent organizational skills, autonomy, and ability to adapt to changing and sometimes challenging environments
  • Excellent sense of’organization, planning and management of priorities
