1. INTRODUCTION

Right To Play is looking for a French translator to translate a recently developed position paper on our play-based learning (PBL) methodology.

2. BACKGROUND AND OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF THE CONSULTANCY

Following a methodology review and consideration of the current research, Right To Play has been expanding our use of play-based learning to achieve outcomes for children in our programs focus on Education and Gender Equality and Wellbeing. A play-based learning guidance note has been developed to clarify our current methodology to staff in programmatic and fundraising roles. To support French-speaking teams (primarily in Africa), the consultant will undertake the professional translation of this document into Standard French:

  1. Play-based learning guidance note: 4,362 words
  2. Play-based learning rubrics: 795 words

3. OVERALL TASKS

  • Examine written play-based learning guidance documents for meaning and recreate this meaning in Standard French
  • Ensure high quality of translation, accurately reflecting the meaning found in the original written documents from English to Standard French
  • Source language and rendering that meaning in the translated French version
  • Assessment and quality review of document
  • Translation of document
  • Technical accuracy review, including confirmation of technical terms
  • Revision and correction in consultation with RTP staff

4. DELIVERABLES

  1. Meeting with Right To Play to clarify technical concepts prior to translation
  2. Final translated play-based learning guidance note and associated rubrics in Standard French shared, checked, and signed off by Right To Play
  3. Final product provided in appropriate electronic format, including Microsoft Word

Note: The translator should ensure equal gender linguistic representation of the document.

5. TIME FRAME

  • The final product will be completed no later than Thursday August 22, 2024.
  • The consultant will follow the agreed-upon work plan.

6. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Highly skilled bilingual French-English (English-French)
  • Minimum a bachelor’s degree in French or French studies
  • Certification in translation services from French to English or English to French
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in translating written English work to Standard French
  • Speciality of the technical language applied in the field of education
  • High orientation to detail

7. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Speak one of the African dialects and has knowledge of other African dialects (Malian, Senegalese, or Burundian)
  • Familiar with the methodology/pedagogy of Right To Play style is an asset
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in the English language
