Organisation Background

Founded in 2011, the International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) is an international non-governmental organisation that supports humanitarian aid workers by establishing safety coordination platforms in insecure contexts. INSO provides registered NGOs with a range of free services, including real-time incident tracking, analytical reports, safety-related data and mapping, crisis management support, staff orientations and training.

INSO provides daily support to more than 1000 NGOs operating in 16 of the world’s most insecure countries.

INSO Syria

The INSO Syria platform was first launched as an emergency response in 2015. We now support over 200 organizations to deliver aid and assistance to millions of people in need nationwide. INSO Syria maintains complete geographic coverage of Syria. It serves partners based and operating in all Syria response hubs with INSO field offices/staff present in Beirut, Gaziantep, and Northeast Syria. It maintains its country office in Amman, Jordan. The Syria crisis is unique and complex, and it continues to evolve amidst a spectrum of regional tensions.

Job Summary

As Training Manager, you will be responsible for developing, developing, delivering, and evaluating training courses to support national and international NGOs in safety & security management, personal risk mitigation, and humanitarian access. You will ensure compliance with INSO training standards and best practices, lead the training team of 3, as well as lead the preparation and delivery of the annual training plan.

The ideal candidate will be fluent in English and have a strong background in the humanitarian field, adult learning or civilian safety and security sector, with solid project management skills and good understanding of the regional dynamics.

Major Responsibilities

Implement Training Program

  • Communicate with INSO partners about training and listen to their needs.
  • Conduct training needs assessment.
  • Plan and organise training sessions in Gaziantep, Northeast Syria, Amman and Beirut, as well as online.
  • Contextualise and facilitate courses on safety & security management, personal safety, humanitarian access and negotiations.
  • Review and improve training materials based on context evolution and partners’ needs.
  • Design and incorporate monitoring and evaluation tools.
  • Contribute to MEAL and donor reporting.

Lead the Training Team

  • Manage the training team (2 Training Officers).
  • Coordinate with other INSO teams (logistics, financial) and senior management.
  • Seek advice and give support to other INSO training teams (15 countries).
  • Assist senior management staff in the day-to-day running of the country programme.
  • Help manage the public perceptions of INSO’s work to establish and maintain recognition of its mandate for independence, impartiality, and neutrality.
  • Comply with INSO service delivery standards and procedures.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in the humanitarian, adult learning or civilian safety & security sector.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience in team and project management.
  • Demonstrated understanding of NGO safety & security management, personal safety, humanitarian principles, practices, access, and negotiations.
  • Work experience in conflict affected environments.
  • Well-developed networking and organisational skills.

Desirable

  • Experience delivering courses focusing on NGO safety & security management, personal safety, humanitarian access and negotiations.
  • Experience developing curriculum.
  • Experience in public speaking.
  • Project management and/or First Aid certifications.
  • Experience implementing technical solutions in training settings.

Terms & Conditions

The position is based in Amman, with regular missions to Lebanon, Türkiye, and Northeast Syria (through KRI).

12-month contract, €5,000 per month salary, 4 calendar days annual leave per month and 3 days of R&R every 3 months; a 1250 JOD housing allowance provided, global medical coverage (excluding USA) and AD&D insurance.
