The Caritas Switzerland program in Burkina Faso was designed in 2020 in parallel with the opening of its new office in Ouagadougou. This program aims to improve the protection of migrants, support displaced people, promote the development of agricultural value chains and strengthen the resilience of rural populations . By adopting systemic and holistic approaches, it tackles forms of extreme poverty with an HDP nexus as well as a long-term perspective, thereby helping the most vulnerable families overcome economic difficulties and strengthening the capacities of communities to cope. to external shocks. The projects in Burkina Faso and Niger, managed through a second office in Niamey, are mainly implemented in collaboration with local partners, working closely with other Caritas Switzerland programs in the Sahel region. Caritas Switzerland is also active in networks of international organizations and thematic working groups in these countries, seeking to play a catalytic role by using its experience to build trust and find innovative solutions.
Required profile
The position offers the opportunity to participate at different levels in the design and development of Caritas Switzerland programs in the Sahel region. We are looking for an individual interested in supporting the team with on-the-ground skills in terms of humanitarian expertise and experience, while seeking new and innovative acquisition opportunities. In addition to these qualities, you must also be interested and able to work on knowledge management and the quality of interventions. The desired profile is completed by tasks in the field of representation and communication.
Your tasks
Strategic support and coordination in the humanitarian field
- Provide support to the coordination of the humanitarian project cycle by working closely with internal and external teams to ensure effective planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of humanitarian projects, while respecting standards and international procedures
- Provide strategic support to define the role and added value of Caritas Switzerland in humanitarian action and Rapid Response, collaborating with internal and external teams to develop effective strategies
- Strengthen the technical capacities of teams working on humanitarian interventions
Acquisition of funds and development of new interventions
- Lead the acquisition of humanitarian funds by selecting priority sectors, choosing appropriate implementing partners and drafting compelling project documents consistent with donor requirements
- Develop project proposals by effectively supporting their development, from submission management to quality assurance, in close collaboration with the Country Office team, Caritas Switzerland headquarters and national partners
Knowledge and quality management
- Lead and facilitate thematic learning dialogues based on Caritas Switzerland’s key operations and approaches, strengthening internal capacities through the development of thematic tools and instruments
- Assume responsibility for capitalizing and analyzing experiences and lessons learned from ongoing interventions, in close collaboration with the MEAL unit
Communication and representation
- Coordinate the production of communication products
- Ensure coordination and communication with other partners in the Caritas network and local partners. Support the evaluation of potential partners by the Country Office in accordance with Caritas Switzerland directives
- Provide support for coordinating the programmatic activities of Caritas Switzerland in Niger
- Ensure the punctual representation of Caritas Switzerland in Niger. Work closely with those responsible for the Country Program to facilitate the formal establishment of Caritas Switzerland in Niger
Our requirements
- Master’s degree/higher degree in social sciences, international relations, sustainable development or other field relevant to humanitarian work, development and/or migration
- Professional experience in the humanitarian and development cooperation fields of at least five years, preferably in Africa and/or in fragile contexts
- Professional experience (minimum 2 years) in the central Sahel is an asset
- Proven experience in drafting project proposals and proven knowledge of major humanitarian donors (UN/OCHA, ECHO, BHA)
- Experience in managing project cycles and supporting and building the capacity of NGOs and civil society organizations
- Knowledge and interest in the field of protection of vulnerable people in mobility situations
- Proven ability to work under pressure both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work in fragile contexts
- Autonomy, strong capacity for organization, analysis, synthesis and writing
- Ability to communicate fluently, clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
- Impeccable oral and written expression in French, as well as very good knowledge of English. Good knowledge of feeding is an asset
