The Opportunity – Health & Nutrition Technical Advisor
Post location: Gaza Field Office – Rafah and subject to change based on SC priorities and response in Gaza.
Contract Duration and Level of Effort: until 31st December 2024, with a possibility of extension based on available funds.
ROLE PURPOSE: The Health and Nutrition Technical Advisor at Save the Children in Gaza will provide technical leadership and guidance to health and nutrition programs, developing health and nutrition strategic plans, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services to improve the health and well-being of children and families in Gaza. You will contribute to program design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation, while also providing capacity-building support to staff and partners. This role requires strong technical expertise in health and nutrition, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Technical Leadership:
- Provide technical guidance and expertise on health and nutrition programming, including maternal, newborn and child health, nutrition interventions, and public health initiatives.
- Stay abreast of emerging trends, best practices, and evidence-based approaches in health and nutrition, and incorporate them into program design and implementation.
Strategy/Program Design and Implementation:
- Lead the design, planning, and implementation of health and nutrition programs in Gaza, and design relevant health and nutrition strategy, ensuring alignment with Save the Children’s strategic objectives and donor requirements.
- Develop detailed work plans, budgets, and monitoring frameworks for health and nutrition interventions, in collaboration with program teams.
Capacity Building:
- Provide training, mentoring, and technical support to program staff, health workers, and community volunteers on health and nutrition topics, including child health, newborn and maternal nutrition, breastfeeding, and hygiene practices.
- Strengthen the capacity of local partners and health facilities to deliver quality health and nutrition services and promote community participation and ownership.
- Develop the capacity of SCI staff and local partner on medical quality framework, appropriate common approaches, and medical logistic management.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation plans to assess the impact and effectiveness of health and nutrition programs.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data on program indicators, outcomes, and impact, and use findings to inform programmatic decision-making and continuous improvement.
Research and Learning:
- Support research initiatives and operational research studies to generate evidence on effective health and nutrition interventions and contribute to the global knowledge base.
- Facilitate learning and knowledge-sharing among staff, partners, and stakeholders on health and nutrition topics through workshops, seminars, and other forums.
In order to be successful, you will bring/have:
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
ESSENTIAL:
- Master’s degree in Public Health, Nutrition, or a related field; medical degree (MD) with specialization in public health or nutrition is desirable.
- 5+ years of experience in health and nutrition programming, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts, with a focus on maternal and child health, nutrition, and public health interventions.
- Strong technical expertise in health and nutrition, including knowledge of global health guidelines, standards, and best practices.
- Experience in program design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation, with demonstrated ability to lead and manage complex projects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, donors, partners, and community members.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make evidence-based recommendations.
- Proficiency in English; knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
- Commitment to Save the Children’s mission and values, with a passion for improving the health and well-being of children and families in Gaza.
- Language proficiency in Arabic and English.
