About the Position
Center for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC) is currently at a key moment in its history. The work of the Senior Director, Business Development will translate into impact in that it can sustainably improve the lives and wellbeing of civilians caught in conflict. CIVIC seeks the services of an experienced fundraising professional who is a member of the Senior Management Team and reports to the Executive Director. They will partner with program staff across the globe to secure funding for long term initiatives. A team of dedicated professionals, responsible for institutional partnerships and individual giving reports to the Senior Director, Business Development.
Please note that this position can be based in either The Hague, Netherlands, or Washington, D.C., United States.
Key Functions
- Direct all fundraising activities and staff to support CIVIC’s ambitious strategic plan
- Serve as an expert advisor on fundraising matters to the Executive Director and other senior staff
- Supervise, mentor, and train business development department staff, as well as interns and consultants
- Build positive and collaborative inter-departmental working relationships and create a culture of quality driven fundraising across the organization
- Lead CIVIC’s effort to grow its external annual revenue, focusing on increasing unrestricted and core funds
- Grow CIVIC’s networks to identify new opportunities for CIVIC funding, particularly among donors who will provide unrestricted support
- Work with the Communications Department and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) team to create strong donor communications to raise the organizational profile in different donor markets and retain and upgrade existing donors through compelling impact reports
- Work with board members and their respective networks to create inroads to donors.
Requirements/Qualifications
- 15+ years experience and record of success in non-profit fundraising, preferably in the field of conflict prevention, international affairs or human rights
- Deep knowledge and expertise in fundraising and business development. Established track record of success in securing large grants and understanding of institutional and private donor markets and current giving trends
- Strategic and visionary thinker, able to find resourceful solutions to obstacles
- Strong executer in implementing new cross-department processes

Currently, CIVIC’s offices in the US and the Netherlands are open under adherence to all applicable COVID-19 regulations. However, CIVIC offers a hybrid work model that offers work from home on 3 days per week.
