Job Description

The Grants Manager is responsible for the overall management and execution of the subgrant portfolio of the program. The Grants Manager is the primary point of contact for subgrant partners from request to close of award and tracks subgrantee progress for contribution to progress reports, assisting partners in articulating concrete impacts of their programming. The Grants Manager also provides capacity-building support on financial and operational matters as needed based on CSO partners ’ capacity. The candidate should have demonstrated substrant management experience and deep knowledge of CSOs in Guatemala.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages the subgrant portfolio, including core partner upawards and a Crisis Modifier Fund.
  • Manages the subgrant selection process from request to award, including determining selection criteria in coordination with the program team, guiding the review process of applications for funding, and working with subgrant partners to refine and administer subawards.
  • Performs site visits and audits as needed to assist subgrant partners in financial management and reporting, ensuring compliance with relevant USG policy in budgeting and reporting expenses.
  • Maintains a grant tracking system to ensure correct execution of all grant agreements.
  • Bolsters subgrant partner internal organizational capacity to align systems with USAID and USG reporting and other compliance requirements to enable partners to take on direct funding.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with civil society partners in and around Guatemala.

Qualifications:

  • This position is for a Guatemalan national.
  • Bachelor or Graduate degree in finance, accounting, auditing, business administration, or related.
  • At least 5 years of management experience in the administration of sub-grants / sub-contracts for international development projects, preferably USAID-funded, including building financial and operational capacity of local partners to take on direct funding and meet project obligations.
  • Extensive understanding of USG regulations and procedures pertaining to grant management and demonstrated ability to develop and manage large civic engagement grants.
  • Ability to manage and overseas many sub-grants, including preparation of the request, application review, negotiation, award, and tracking to ensure proper execution of agreements.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to determine priorities and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Experience working with CSOs or local entities on development, democracy, and governance.
  • Basic knowledge of GESI and experience working with organizations serving vulnerable populations, such as LGBTQI + communities, women, children, and Indigenous communities.
  • Fluency in Spanish; proficiency in English.

The Grant Manager also provides capacity building support in financial and operational matters, as needed depending on the capacity of CSO partners. The candidate must have proven experience in subdonation management and a deep understanding of CSOs in Guatemala.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages the sub-donation portfolio, including sub-donations to main partners and a Crisis Modifier Fund.
  • Manages the subdonation selection process from application to award, including determining selection criteria in coordination with the program team, guide the process of reviewing funding applications and work with sub-donation partners to refine and manage sub-donations.
  • Conduct field visits and audits, as needed, to assist sub-donor partners in financial management and reporting, ensuring compliance with the relevant policy of the US Government regarding budgeting and expense reporting.
  • It maintains a system for monitoring subsidies to guarantee the correct execution of all subsidy agreements.
  • Strengthens the internal organizational capacity of grant partners to align systems with the reporting requirements and other compliance requirements of USAID and the United States Government, so that the partners can assume direct financing.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with civil society partners in and around Guatemala.

  • Ability to manage and supervise numerous sub-donations, including the preparation of the call, the review of applications, negotiation, award and monitoring to guarantee the correct execution of the agreements.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to determine priorities and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Work experience with CSOs or local entities in development, democracy and governance.
  • Basic knowledge of GESI and work experience with organizations that serve vulnerable populations, such as LGBTQI + communities, women, children and indigenous communities.
  • Mastery of Spanish and English.
