Social Media Officer (Arabic and English) At Generations For Peace


1. Purpose of the Position:

Reporting to the Communications Director, the Social Media Officer leads on GFP’s social media development to contribute to stronger engagement with key stakeholders including current and potential donors and partners and volunteers. This includes scheduling, development, and dissemination of all forms of content and managing all GFP social media platforms (international and local Jordan pages) in both English and Arabic. This role also contributes significantly to storytelling through a variety of channels and mediums and leads on the e-newsletter.

The Social Media Officer is responsible for the maintenance of the GFP website in both English and Arabic and for liaising with external web design providers where necessary.

2. Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Communications Director, and liaising with the Communications Specialist, Communications Officer, Head of Production, and Creative Designer, the Social Media Officer will manage workload, prioritise and schedule to meet deadlines in the following areas:

  • Prepare a social media development strategy focused on engagement with (a) our Donors and Partners; and (b) our Delegates & Pioneers; with quarterly, monthly, and weekly priorities in both English and Arabic.
  • Create a schedule for communications posts on all GFP social media channels and use scheduling tools such as Hootsuite to ensure consistent communications.
  • Liaise with the communication team to create a SM content calendar every month and coordinate and receive input from the communications team ahead of deadlines
  • Lead responsibility for official GFP posts to strategically prioritised GFP social media channels (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc. taking into consideration needs/preferences of (a) our Donors and Partners; and (b) our Delegates & Pioneers.
  • Develop new content for social media and other platforms including the blog and website, contributing to the storytelling objectives of the team.
  • Take other GFP communications content (press releases, stories, reports, blogs, announcements, testimonials, quotes, images, and videos) and post on relevant social media channels.
  • Draft the e-newsletter using online platforms such as MailChimp to deliver GFP highlights to subscribers across the globe.
  • Regularly monitor third party websites and social media channels administered by or of interest to Delegates, Pioneers, donors, or partners (including other GFP satellite social media channels, and donor and partner websites and social media channels) and identify content items to share or link to on GFP social media, and/or posts/comments to make on behalf of GFP on the third-party sites/channels.
  • Monitor and evaluate GFP digital media platforms in terms of influence, interaction, engagements, and follower growth and document in reports.
  • Monitor GFP social media channels and respond to posts and messages in a timely manner, sourcing additional information and/or responses from other staff where necessary.
  • Relationship building/liaising with Delegates and Pioneers around the world to collect quotes/testimonials for digital media and/or broader communications needs.
  • Ensure all posts are fact-checked and proof-read, and that all necessary permissions have been obtained before sharing images or video.
  • Use tools and tactics that generate maximum engagement in social media, including topical relevant and provocative content, polls, competitions, live-online chats, stories, reels, popular hashtags, etc.
  • Lead on testing and using appropriate tools for maximizing social media fan base and influence.
  • Lead on monitoring and evaluating all GFP social media channels, providing regular and specific event reports on coverage and influence with analysis and recommendations based on the data.
  • Lead on social media design elements (i.e. Facebook Timeline cover, profile pic, ads, and Twitter profile).
  • Create basic engaging and professional visuals that reflect GFP (infographics, photos with text, short videos, etc.) when necessary.
  • Stay up to date with trends on social media around the world and apply on GFP’s channels accordingly.
  • Manage content creation, community building, and administration of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.) for departments within GFP.
  • Create and manage social media ad campaigns.
  • Translate/reflect content and/or videos from English to Arabic and vice versa.
  • Ability to cover events and field visits to generate visual content on the go using iPhone, iPad or any similar devices.
  • Manage GFP communications-related email accounts and respond to public inquiries as needed.
  • Lead on GFP and relevant websites development according to best practice and industry trends around the world.
  • Update GFP’s website in English and in Arabic.
  • Ensure all website functionality is operational (donate page, volunteer sign-up, newsletter sign-up, etc.) in coordination with the internal IT Technical Support.
  • Lead on implementation of Search Engine Optimisation and Google AdWords in coordination with internal IT Technical Support.
  • Regularly research industry best practices and make suggestions to improve GFP’s website.
  • Liaise with external provider and internal IT Technical Support as needed for website updates/modifications.

The Social Media Officer will also be responsible for:

  • Contributing and brainstorming ideas in support of the Communications Department and organisational objectives.
  • Completing other responsibilities requested by the Communications Director.
  • Perform other tasks as required

5. Education, Qualifications, Competences, Skills Required:

Essential:

  • University bachelor’s degree minimum in Communication, Digital Media, Digital Marketing, Visual Design, Visual Arts or similar fields.
  • At least three year’s professional experience in social media, content development and communications.
  • Experience in social media development and monitoring
  • Experience in web maintenance
  • Excellent spoken and written English and Arabic
  • Experience proof-reading and fact-checking
  • Experience translating English to Arabic and vice versa
  • Excellent active listening, problem solving, client management, and customer service skills
  • Excellent computer skills (documents/spreadsheets/databases/presentations/calendars/email)
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and multi-task, managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines
  • Proven ability to work in a multi-cultural team
  • Interest in global current affairs, peacebuilding, and development
  • Strong organisational skills, ability to multi-task, and strong work ethic
  • Experience in blogging

Preferred:

  • Professional experience working within/with NGOs
  • Experience working with international donors and ensuring their requirements are met

  • Experience in photography/videography and/or editing software like Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro.
