Medici del Mondo Italia is the Italian chapter of the international network of Médecins du Monde (MdM). The association was formed in December 2020 and formally joins the MdM network in October 2021. MdM Italy pursues aims of social solidarity and acts to guarantee the right to and access to health in Italy and around the world. The lines of intervention pursued by the association to date are access to health for migrants arriving and in transit in Italy and vulnerable groups living in precarious housing and environmental situations, with a specific focus on sexual and reproductive health and rights.
The selected person will report to the Executive Director and will be a part of the association’s Management Team.
JOB SUMMARY
She/He is responsible for MdM Italy’s medical health programs and activities. Collaborates in defining the association’s programmatic and advocacy lines. Technically supervises medical teams. Reports to the Executive Director and is a member of the Management Team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Program and Strategy evelopment
- In collaboration with the Director and Management Team operational teams defines the programmatic strategy of MdM Italy for the next three years;
- Collaborates in the drafting of the association’s annual plans with reference to the programmatic and advocacy part;
- Regularly conducts national-level context analysis and territorial needs analysis by identifying and analyzing potential lines of intervention;
- Defines together with the Advocacy Manager MdM positionings and advocacy plans.
Programme Management
- Has ultimate responsibility for MdM Italy’s programs whose proper implementation, compliance and quality (S)he ensures;
- Ensures that MdM Italy programs fit into a sound theory of change with well-defined goals and milestones;
- Identifies and develops pilot actions;
- Structures the MEAL apparatus of MdM Italia programs with particular attention to learning;
- Ensures the implementation of MoM medical standards and protocols, adapting them to the Italian national context;
- Contributes to internal activity reports, periodic reports requested by donors, and MDM Italy project proposals.
Human Resources and Safety
- Manages field coordinators (line management);
- Technically supervises health staff (technical management);
- Contributes to the definition of safety protocols and oversees their proper implementation.
Representation
- Represents MdM Italy with health authorities and at technical and advocacy tables;
- Represents MdM Italy with media and external stakeholders.
- Represents MdMI talia in relevant working groups of the international MdM network.
Fundraising
- Supports the fundraising team in the process of defining project proposals.
EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- MA in Medicine, public health or health-related fields;
- 10 years working experience in the nonprofit world in national and international settings ( at least 5 in managerial/coordination functions);
- Excellent knowledge of Italian and English. Knowledge of French is a plus;
- Adherence to the values and militant approach of the MdM network;
- Proven experience in health program design and management;
- Proven experience in managing social and health programs aimed at ensuring access to health for vulnerable groups;
- Proven experience in identifying and coordinating advocacy plans in the socio-health field;
- Thorough knowledge of the Italian National Health System (NHS);
- Knowledge of the procedures of major institutional donors ;
- Master’s degree in public health, migration medicine or related;
- Experience in international cooperation with medical and health NGOs;
