one. Background

2. Background and organizational context

During 2023, a new Country Program was approved for the period 2023-2026. The UNDP Country Program in Chile is based on UNSDCF, the analysis of the country’s priorities and needs, and the six emblematic solutions of the UNDP Strategic Plan. It is based on the results obtained, the evidence-based performance analysis, while anticipating emerging areas of intervention and building on multi-stakeholder and development partner consultations. UNDP’s vision for the program is to address complex and interconnected challenges, responding to the demands of Chilean society and the priorities established by the government that include supporting institutional strengthening and citizen participation, so that no one is left behind; address “fair” socio-ecological transition processes”with a systemic perspective and reduce multidimensional poverty and inequality through a more robust offer of social protection, which can be summarized in four pillars:

  •  People enjoy economic, social, cultural and environmental rights in a context of poverty and inequality reduction and greater social cohesion.
  •  Institutions ensure gender parity and strengthen local development with higher levels of transparency, integrity, participation and representation.
  •  A fair and socio-ecological transition towards an inclusive and sustainable production and consumption model.
  •  Sustainable use of natural resources, protection of ecosystems, biodiversity and water resources.

3. Purpose of the charge

Under the guidance and supervision of the Operations Manager, the Driver and Logistics Assistant provides reliable and safe driving services to/the UNDP Resident Representative and other United Nations officials and high-ranking visitors, ensuring the highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security matters. The Driver also demonstrates a customer-oriented, courteous, tactful, and ability approach to working with people from different national and cultural backgrounds.

At the request of the supervisor, the Driver may also be required to provide driving services to Operations and Programs personnel at the Country Office, United Nations consultants and experts and staff on mission.

4. Main roles and responsibilities

1 ) Provide reliable and safe driving services primarily using the Office vehicle for the Resident Representative and other United Nations officials and visitors.

  •  Transport the Resident Representative or other United Nations visitors or officers by applying the appropriate protocols.
  •  Deliver and collect mail and documents and carry out other messaging responsibilities.
  •  Receive official staff and visitors at the airport and help with visa and customs procedures when necessary.

2 ) Guarantee cost savings through proper use and daily maintenance of the assigned office vehicle.

  •  Maintain accurate records of daily vehicle use.
  •  Provide information for the preparation of vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
  •  Perform minor repairs in a timely manner and / or coordinate major repairs.
  •  Ensure timely oil change, check tires, brakes, car wash, etc., in a timely manner.

3 ) Guarantee the availability in the assigned vehicle of all the required documents, supplies and spare parts necessary.

  •  Keep vehicle documents, such as vehicle insurance, vehicle records, office directory, and city / country map, up to date.
  •  Make sure the vehicle’s first aid kit is properly supplied with standard medical supplies.

4 ) Take all immediate actions required by rules, regulations and laws in case you are involved in accidents.

5 ) Perform other tasks within the functional profile of the job holder, as assigned and considered necessary for the efficient operation of the office and the organization.

  •  Additional tasks may include helping with mail delivery, procurement, workshops, and other administrative tasks.

5. Requirements

Education

Secondary education and valid driver’s license are required.

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

  •  A minimum of 3 years ( with a full secondary education diploma ) of relevant work experience as a driver with a safe driving history is required.
  •  Knowledge of driving regulations, rules and laws, as well as skills in basic vehicle repair and maintenance.
  •  Experience in basic use of computers and relevant office software packages ( MS Word, Excel, etc. ) and ability to use web-based management systems and electronic records, files and / or programming systems.
  •  Having knowledge of protocols and security requirements is an advantage.
  •  Valid class B and A driver’s license for passenger transport; Safe driving record is required ( driver’s resume/to which the Civil Registry and Identification Service of Chile ) issues.

Language requirements

  •  Fluid Spanish
  •  Basic knowledge of the English language is considered an advantage.
