Mission and objectives
UNICEF is recognized as a reference of credibility and efficiency in the defense of childhood and adolescence. This position gives UNICEF a great capacity to mobilize municipal, state and federal governments, civil society, the private sector, and the media to guarantee the rights of girls, boys, and their families. UNICEF seeks to fulfill this role with responsibility, ensuring the transparency of its actions. The best social programs and public policies for children and adolescents are often born from local initiatives. For this reason, UNICEF’s zonal offices provide technical and financial support to projects in partnership with non-governmental and governmental organizations. Located in the regions of the country defined as priorities by UNICEF – the Amazon, the semi-arid region, and large urban centers – these offices put national strategies into practice, support direct service projects, mobilize civil society and state and municipal governments on the issue of childhood and adolescence, and promote the creation of local public policies. It also provides the organization with the possibility of reaching each child and adolescent directly.
