And we never give up !

For each child, health

After more than 3 years without any reported cholera cases, a resurgence of cholera was confirmed by the Ministry of Public Health and Population ( MSPP ) on October 2, 2022. As of December 06, 2022, MSPP statistics show: 13,586 suspicious cases including: 1,178 confirmed cases, 11,670 hospitalized cases, 184 institutional deaths and 99 community deaths on the national territory. Cholera has just reappeared in Haiti 12 years after the first outbreak in 2010 which followed the earthquake and which affected at least 820,000 people, including 9,800 deaths according to the MSPP report. This resurgence appears in a particular context of crisis characterized by insecurity, social unrest, the fuel crisis, which disrupt the normal functioning of health services and the access to water of the population.

Since the confirmation of the first case, UNICEF has provided support to the Government to prevent the spread of the disease. In fact, UNICEF supports the government in coordinating the response to DINEPA as a sector co-lead and also makes inputs available to the government, fuel and other materials to respond adequately and effectively to the outbreaks identified in the affected areas. Through its civil society partners ( NGO ), UNICEF carries out awareness-raising and community response activities and supports health facilities for those affected.

Taking into account the rise in power in Haiti of the pandemic and the relevance of close monitoring of the partners for the achievement of results, the WASH section intends to strengthen its presence in the field by positioning young motivated junior engineers wishing to acquire experiences in the field of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene
