Strategic and proactive communications management is key to contributing to the institution’s positioning and advancing the objectives of the IDB offices in each country ( representations ). For this, the IDB Representation in Nicaragua is looking for a professional with a degree in journalism, communication, marketing or related branches, with extensive and recognized experience in corporate communication or the press.
About this job
We are looking for a Communications Consultant to provide strategic and technical advice in communications management to the IDB Representation in Nicaragua, in collaboration with the Knowledge Department, Innovation and Communication ( KIC ) and the Management of the Department of Central American Countries ( CID ), Haiti, Mexico, Panama and the Dominican Republic , as well as in everything related to relations with the priority media and audiences in a timely, efficient and agile manner, in line with the Bank’s corporate identity.
This is what you will do
Manage strategic communication
- Under the leadership of the Representative and in coordination with KIC, and in line with the priorities set by the Vice Presidency of Countries ( VPC ) and the Department of Central American Countries ( CID ), Haiti, Mexico, Panama and the Dominican Republic prepare, implement and monitor compliance with a external and internal communication strategy for Nicaragua.
- Support and / or coordinate the preparation and implementation of communication plans for the efficient and timely development of initiatives, projects and events, both of the IDB Group and events carried out by third parties with the participation of the IDB.
- Act as the focal point of media interaction of the country ( radio, television, written press and digital media ) in coordination with KIC and in accordance with the IDB Group’s communication processes, policies and guidelines, as well as keeping the contact database updated.
- Coordinate with the CID communication area to contribute to the implementation of the communication strategy of the Central American Region, in line with the IDB corporate plan and applying the brand manual in each case.
- Crisis management in coordination with VPC, KIC and CID Management, proactively carry out identification and management of communicational risks, management of specific crises and development of messages in accordance with corporate guidelines.
- Advise and support the Representative and office staff in social media management, consistent with the corresponding corporate policies ( AM-325 ) and the guides prepared by KIC, which includes external publications, branding, blogs, social networks and dissemination of public information on different channels.
- Other activities related to communication topics required by the Representative.
Development of communication materials
- Write and edit press releases, video scripts, conversation points ( talking points ), speeches, opinion pieces, blogs, newsletters and other materials that illustrate the scope, and the impact of the activities of the representation, in coordination with the specialist of the subject.
- Generate content for corporate social networks of the IDB ( Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter ) regarding the most outstanding activities of the IDB Group in the country.
- Maintain a key actor mapping and social media and offline influencers, which includes opinion leaders, academics, journalists, and government officials.
- Coordination and management of supplier relationship such as communication agencies, graphic designers or audiovisual producers.
- Support the Representative in any task related to the area of communication and information, as well as in the generation of content ( eg. events, interviews, articles, blogs, presentations, preparation of talking points ).
- Use of Bank platforms for the dissemination of information with interested parties.
Accompaniment and advice
- Keep the Representative informed about events of the pa situation is and analyze and report relevant news in real time.
- Likewise, be a focal point for interaction and support with those responsible for communication from public sector entities, the private sector, multilateral and bilateral international cooperators, academic sector and representatives of civil society.
- Monitor and analyze media coverage communication and send a daily, weekly and monthly summary of relevant news to headquarters, CID and the Representation. Include a brief analysis of the situation. Likewise, support in the implementation of technological monitoring resources for office staff.
- Provide advice and support in executive communications regarding events, relationship with key actors, content development and social network management for the representative, in coordination with KIC, the CID Management and the corresponding policies.
- Ensure that the IDB brand image ( for example, logo, visual identity ) is well represented in events, publications and other products and in all communication products that involve the Bank.
Internal communication
- Provide inputs and keep the intranet page of the country.
- Development of plans and / or tools internal communication, in coordination with other teams of the Representation, including the messages of the Representative / Manager.
- Design and keep updated a calendar of representation events, in coordination with the administrative, operational, fiduciary and economic team of the office. Design or coordinate the design of the promotional material.
- Participation in staff meetings and advice to the representative.
This is what you need
- Education: Bachelor of Communications, Marketing, International Development, or Related Field, preferably with an emphasis on media relations and journalism. Experience in political analysis will be taken into account, as well as experience and knowledge in the Central American and Nicaraguan region.
- Experience : Have at least 2 years of experience in the media, strategic communication and public relations agencies, communication offices of international entities.
- Languages : Spanish and English

- Citizenship: You are a citizen of Nicaragua or a citizen of one of our 48 member countries.
- Consanguinity: you have no family members ( up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including the spouse ) who work in the IDB Group

- Contract duration: 12 renewable months by mutual agreement up to an additional 48 month period

- Governance : You will work under the supervision of the Representative and the guidance of the communications specialist of the Management and the focal point designated by KIC and CID.
