Senior IT Infrastructure Architect

The Bank for International Settlements, BIS is hiring a Senior IT Infrastructure Architect in Basel to join our Real Estate and Facility Management team.

This role is based in Basel, Switzerland however, thanks to our status as an international organization, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities and located anywhere in the world. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate and their dependent family members.

Purpose of the job:

Our mission is to support central banks’ pursuit of monetary and financial stability through international cooperation, and to act as a bank for central banks.

You will contribute to this mission by leading all aspects of IT design and implementation work for our New Site Development project. You will collaborate with partners from the external design team, internal IT, Facilities Management, service providers, and specialist consultants through a secondary reporting line to the Head of IT Infrastructure and Operations.

By joining the Real Estate and Facility Management team you will:

  •  Play a key role in a prestigious, long term New Site Development project that will influence the landscape of the city of Basel
  •  Take the opportunity to be part of a unique, innovative, and sustainable project by contributing to the design and implementation of all technical aspects for the New Site Development
  •  Collaborate with various teams across the Bank, and externally with international consultants that you will have close interactions with.
  •  Influence the design and support implementation of a leading-edge Technology environment blending facilities and technology

Principal Accountabilities:

  •  Enterprise IT Infrastructure Architecture: Understands the current BIS architecture and leads the design of the target IT environment for the new site development aligned to the Bank’s business, security, resilience, and operational requirements. Participate to the BIS technology transformation initiatives ensuring that the New Site Development infrastructure are designed to meet varied business objectives in a new work environment. Review and comment the General Planner (GP) deliverables related to IT Infrastructure Architecture during the design phase. Participate to Technical meetings with the GP.
  •  Requirements Analysis, Solution Design, and Implementation: Conduct analysis of complex systems and requirements, provide advice and leadership of the designs, and direct major implementation activities while coordinating with business and IT operational teams to maintain high availability and stability. Conduct Proof-of-Concepts, feasibility analysis and propose options to be considered by stakeholders prior to implementation.
  •  Stakeholder Management: Maintain strategic relationships with key technology and contract service providers ensuring that the Bank’s best interests are served. Facilitate communication between stakeholders and ensure documentation is produced and maintained for operational teams post implementation. Support budgeting and forecasting of initiatives and prepare / recommend change order when needed
  •  Technology Strategy: Provide strategic advice on complex IT systems, identifying where current capabilities can be expanded or proposing alternative capabilities to support the Bank’s organization goals. Find opportunities to better integrate modern building management capabilities and Internet-of-Things into the IT architecture. Lead strategic projects supporting the new site development in areas such as enterprise networking, wireless, datacenter and end-user environment.
  •  This role may require on site presence outside of the regular work hours depending on the needs, for example special activities linked to the New Site Development project.

Qualifications, skills, and experience:

  •  Strong professional background of progressively experience in designing, integrating, and implementing complex IT infrastructure solutions (previous project design and implementation experience in the context of building construction, Smart Buildings, and IoT is an asset)
  •  Deep and broad understanding of enterprise IT systems and infrastructure
  •  Understanding of the latest trends in technology, customer, and vendor management
  •  Experience leading major technology projects, working with diverse teams to implement and transition to operations new technical solutions
  •  Broad knowledge and experience in IT infrastructure related fields including planning and construction, security, operations, infrastructure, and maintenance. Demonstrable ability to implement major projects effectively, on time and budget.
  •  Knowledge and experience of IT Network Architecture, Data Centre IT design and infrastructure and Digital workplace.
  •  Very good communication and negotiations skills, with excellent command of the English language.
