Consultancy – Critical Corporate Initiative Consultant

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. We are currently seeking to fill a Critical Corporate Initiative Junior Consultant position, home-based.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DIVISION:

Over the past years, WFP has responded to an unprecedented level of emergencies, while maintaining ongoing operations. This increased demand stretches the organization which means WFP has to find new approaches and new ways of working to ensure we are channelling every available resource to the people we serve. In the context of a changing world and a changing WFP, the Innovation, Change and Knowledge Management (INK) Division was set up in 2015 to manage change and promote innovation within the organization. The team is working directly with WFP’s leadership to drive strategic corporate priorities.

WFP’s Knowledge Management Team is implementing a critical corporate initiative on Innovations in Knowledge Management. The consultant is responsible for the overall project management of the CCI.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  •  Title of Post: Junior Consultant

  •  Duration of internship: 3 months, extendable
  •  Expected Start Date: October 2 2023

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Consultant, reporting to the Knowledge Management Lead , is expected to:

  •  Provide project management support to the CCI, including the development and management of a detailed project schedule and work plan.
  •  Ensure that milestones are achieved on time, including the set-up of the CCI governance structure, the project parameters, including selection of key performance indicators and impact measurement plan.
  •  Coordinate with all stakeholders with diplomacy and tact, organizing regular meetings, facilitating inputs from all stakeholders, and documenting progress.
  •  Ensure that quarterly reporting on the CCI is well prepared and timely.
  •  Monitor project budget.
  •  Provide project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders, including at the Director level, about strategy, adjustments, and progress.
  •  Document project progress, ensuring that learnings are captured and shared according to the CCI governance structure. Monitor progress of the CCI and escalate concerns or the need to adjust timelines in a timely fashion.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  •  The candidate must have a degree in business, communications or international development.
  •  At least 1 year of project management experience. Experience with the United Nations or an International Organization is also required.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS :

  •  Proficiency in Windows, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  •  Good analytical abilities, both quantitative and qualitative
  •  Ability to produce high-quality written materials, including graphically-based PowerPoint presentations as well as text documents.
  •  Ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders with maturity and tact.
  •  Collaborative spirit to liaise with a wide range of people at various levels and across different cultures
  •  Time management skills with an ability to plan ahead, anticipate requirements, problems and obstacles
  •  Self-motivated and able to work in a team

WORKING LANGUAGES

Excellent written and spoken English is required (proficiency/level C). Knowledge of second UN language is a plus.

SUPERVISION (Level/Methods of Supervision)

Under the direct supervision of Knowledge Management Lead within the INK Division.

TRAINING COMPONENTS

Throughout their assignment, consultants have access to an industry leading learning platform, weLearn. Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.
