About UNODC in Mexico In 1996 the Government of Mexico and the Governments of Central America, through their accredited embassies in Mexico, They held a Memorandum of Understanding through which they committed to working together with UNODC, this in order to face the drug and crime problems of the region. The memorandum was the antecedent for UNODC and the Government of Mexico to conclude a Headquarters Agreement in 2003 for the establishment of the Regional Office for Mexico and Central America, in order to coordinate and supervise UNODC activities in this region. In this agreement, the Government of Mexico recognizes the legal personality of the Office in Mexico, as well as its privileges and immunities. In 2008, a Cooperation Agreement was signed that further strengthened relations between UNODC and the Government of Mexico,through which the modalities of cooperation between the two were established.

On October 15, 2012, a new Agreement was signed between the Government of the United Mexican States and the United Nations to generate a new form of association and grant the Office UNODC in Mexico functions of a Liaison and Partnership Office, LPO for its acronym in English. This new office will develop, together with the Mexican State, operations and functions of strategic planning, promotion of alliances, South-South Cooperation, exchange of information and knowledge, as well as analysis of trends. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT: The Comprehensive Program for Crime Prevention aims to design, implement and evaluate crime prevention strategies, violence and the consumption of psychoactive substances based on the 3 levels of universal prevention, to achieve a greater scope in terms of coverage and beneficiary population. In addition to addressing the three levels of crime prevention ( situational, community and social reintegration ), the strategies developed will have a people-oriented approach that allows all actions to have a positive impact on them. UNODC’s experience on evidence-based programs Building Families and Play Live to work with girls, boys, adolescents, youth and families will also be used. On the other hand,This Program seeks to work with institutions of various kinds that contribute to crime prevention at the three levels of approach: Health, Sport, Education, Culture, Youth, Attorney and Justice, Public Security, among others.

POSITION OF THE POSITION: Support in the analysis of statistical and geographic information, as well as in the evaluation of the impact of global programs and initiatives related to crime prevention.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of the UNODC Comprehensive Crime Prevention Program, the Crime Prevention Specialist will have the following responsibilities:

  •  Collect quantitative, qualitative and geographic information for reporting.
  •  Develop reports that include quantitative, statistical and geographic analyzes for the description of social and criminal characteristics. This with the support of software such as: ArcGis, QGis, Nvivo, Stata and / or Python.
  •  Systematize qualitative and quantitative information collected in field and cabinet work for reports, impact evaluation reports, as well as products required by the project.
  •  Conduct statistical analyzes for impact evaluations of global programs and crime prevention initiatives.
  •  Prepare maps, infographics, information sheets, among other materials for the dissemination of results, as well as dissemination campaigns on social networks at the request of the project.
  •  Assist in the organization of meetings, workshops, conferences, events and others related to the project in virtual or face-to-face modality.
  •  Any other related activity requested by the Coordinator of the Comprehensive Crime Prevention Program.

Work involves contact and frequent interaction between; ( I ) Project Staff, ( II ) Government partners, ( III ) Donors, ( IV ) Program participants and ( V ) female officials/publics, ( VI ) Suppliers, ( VII ) childhood, youth and families.

CALIFICATIONS: Education − University degree in social work, sociology, human geography, statistics, social or related psychology.

Work experience

− At least 6 years of work experience in activities related to statistical, criminal and / or geographic analysis. − Previous experience in the investigation, collection, systematization and / or analysis of statistical information and/o geo − Previous experience in the development of geographic and statistical data collection instruments − Previous experience in the development of social research in crime prevention is required, childhood, gender, youth and / or families. − Experience within the United Nations System will be considered an advantage.

Languages − Excellent English language management ( advanced level ). Others − Being a Mexican citizen in full exercise of their rights, or a foreigner, whose immigration status allows the function to be carried out. − Availability to travel.

Other desirable knowledge − Knowledge of UNODC’s mandate and areas of work. − Ability to speak in front of large groups, transmit ideas effectively. − Microsoft Office Management, GIS Knowledge and Management, Graphic Design Programs, Statistical Softwares. − ArcGis, QGis, Nvivo, Stata and / or Python Management. − Previous experience working directly with relevant actors at the community level − Previous experience in risk analysis for the commission of crimes. − Organization, monitoring, planning and monitoring of specific objectives.
