(BREAKING WIDE) – Trump calls for Immediate Termination of Section 230.
President Trump announced on Twitter Friday calling for the immediate termination of section 230, the Communication Decency Act. Trump says is for the purpose of National Security.
“For purposes of National Security, Section 230 must be immediately terminated!!,”Trump said.
Section 230 is a piece of Internet legislation in the United States, passed into law as part of the Communications Decency Act (CDA) of 1996 according to Wikipedia
The Communication Decency Act provides immunity from liability for providers and users of an “interactive computer service” who publish information provided by third-party users:
“No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider.”
Trump calling for the immediate termination of Section 230 now is perhaps motivated by constant censorship from the big tech on conservatives, few days ago YouTube demonetize and temporarily suspend One America News Network(OANN).
A YouTube spokesperson Ivy Choi told Axios that, OANN, the conservative news channel uploaded a video promoting a phony coronavirus cure and the channel is barred for one week before it can begin uploading new videos again. The spokesman also claimed YouTube dont consider the fast growing OANN as an authoritative news source.
