Trump Bypass Protocols, Orders Chloroquine Be Use For Coronavirus Therapy.

President Donald Trump announced Thursday that he has ordered Federal Drug Administration Commissioner Stephen Hahn to waive “outdated rules and bureaucracies” on testing various “anti-viral treatments” to counter coronavirus.

Trump acknowledged that “by its design” the vaccine sought by the National Institutes of Health and other research agencies needs lengthy testing times.

“Therapies are hopefully something we can pass on a lot faster,” he added, “treatments that can minimize the frequency or length of the symptoms.”

In particular, the president pointed to a “couple of drugs” the F.D.A. has approved for “immediate use,” including hydroxychloroquine, a malaria drug that has shown promise in battling coronavirus.

“It’s shown very encouraging early results, and we’re going to be able to make that drug available almost immediately,” the president stated. “And that’s where the F.D.A. has been so great.”

Trump added that the F.D.A. “has also confirmed compassionate use for a number of patients.”

The president of the United States added that the White House task force and private firms will still “work in the future towards a much-needed vaccine.”
