The National Democratic Institute (NDI) is working globally to build the power and influence of activists campaigning for the equal rights of all people and seeks a Temporary Project Assistant to join its Citizen Participation and Inclusion team in providing financial and technical assistance to civil society organizations representing marginalized populations in more than 50 countries. The Temporary Project Assistant will support the oversight of small grants disbursed to grassroots organizations representing lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex (LGBTQI+) communities, people with disabilities, and religious minorities. This a 3-month position with a possible 3-month extension based on performance and budget.
Language proficiency in French OR Spanish is required for this position.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Citizen Participation and Inclusion team in organizing and implementing a global small grants program supporting marginalized communities
- Provide translation of documents from French OR Spanish into English
- Collect and distribute to the Citizen Participation and Inclusion team news updates related to countries where grantee partners operate
- Attend meetings and seminars relevant to global inclusion issues and prepare written presentations to Citizen Participation and Inclusion team members
- Update data on grantee partners and the progress of locally funded initiatives
- Conduct special projects as needed
- Provide logistical and administrative support to the Citizen Participation and Inclusion team; and
- Assist with administrative duties such as organizing travel, completing consultant payments, etc.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, international affairs or a related field; Additional years of relevant work experience may be substituted for educational requirement on a one-for-one basis
- Proficient in French OR Spanish (speaking, reading, writing)
- Available a minimum of 20 hours per week
- Excel and basic budgeting experience desirable
- Able to prioritize, meet deadlines, and work with a team
- Experience managing work prioritization
- Experience with Google Apps (Gmail, Calendar, Google Drive, G+, etc.) strongly desired

To be considered for a Temporary Project Assistant at NDI, you must have completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and be located in Maryland, D.C., or Virginia. The hourly rate for candidates with a completed Bachelor’s degree is $17.00. The hourly rate for candidates with a completed Master’s degree is $18.00.
While there may be flexibility for remote/hybrid work environments and to comply with tax and legal obligations, successful candidates must be residents of MD, DC, or VA or relocate prior to the start of employment at NDI.
