Regional Project Assistant, San Jose, Costa Rica At IOM – International Organization for Migration


Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

The Western Hemisphere Program (WHP), funded by the United States Department of State, Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM), seeks to strengthen the capacities of States in Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean to govern migration humanely and sustainably. The program has four key outcome areas: 1) migration management, 2) partnerships, 3) crisis response and 4) communication for development.

As part of the activities on labour migration, the WHP also includes activities funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) since September 2022. These activities are implemented in a complementary and joint manner in four countries of the region: Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Costa Rica, and at the regional level.

Under the overall supervision of the Senior Regional Project Coordinator and direct supervision of the Labor Migration Unit Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties.

POST DESCRIPTION

Reports directly to: Labour Migration Unit Coordinator

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

1. Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of ethical recruitment activities funded by IRCC at the regional and country level.

2. Coordinate with the Regional Monitoring and Evaluation Unit the systematization of evidence and the results matrix of the project.

3. Support at a regional and country level in the organization and implementation of training and awareness processes aimed at government authorities, recruitment agencies, representatives of the private sector and civil society organizations, as well as other relevant actors, as part of the support actions foreseen in the project.

4. Develop a strategy for engagement with civil society and support country teams in the implementation with key partners.

5. Contribute to maintaining and strengthening effective cooperation relationships with key national counterparts (governmental and civil society) and international organizations involved, to explore synergies and avoid duplication of actions.

6. Assist in the compilation and drafting of documents and the preparation of periodic reports, as required by IOM, project donors and other governmental and non-governmental partners, including an interim report and a final narrative and financial report.

7. Assist country teams with technical support in the implementation of ethical recruitment related activities.

8. Support administrative tasks for the implementation of regional activities.

9. Support other tasks related to ethical recruitment under the Regional Program on Migration.

10. Other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor

Education:

  •  Highschool degree/certificate with 3 years of relevant experience; or
  •  Bachelor’s degree in Administration, Project Management, Social Sciences, or related careers with one year of relevant professional experience.

Experience:

  •  Experience in providing technical support or coordination positions, preferably at a regional level.
  •  Experience in consultation and participation with government authorities, private sector, and multidisciplinary teams of professionals.
  •  Experience in pedagogical activities and development of training curriculum

Skills:

  •  Knowledge of international organizations, non-governmental or governmental organizations.
  •  Experience in administrative services or project management and evaluation.
  •  Experience working with donors.
  •  General studies in migration will be an advantage
