Duty of Care is a cross-cutting division of the International Rescue Committee’s (IRC) Global People and Culture department. The team supports the emotional and physical health of employees through handling the organization’s staff counseling, psychosocial and health support services, being responsible for its worksite health policies, and providing resilience-based education and training. The team also offers guidance to leaders and managers during and following critical incidents and disease outbreaks to ensure that best practices are used.

Under the supervision of the Duty of Care Director, the Regional Duty of Care RAI US Advisor will (1) support in the implementation of the Duty of Care policy and framework, (2) own the identification, development and delivery of staff care services and emergency interventions in the areas of self-care, resilience, stress management and psychological trauma response for IRC staff, and (3) equip senior management teams (SMTs) and supervisors with guidance, resources and training to support staff resilience. This work will be completed in close collaboration with Country Directors, People and Culture Leads, and regional program leadership.

Highlights of Your Key Responsibilities:

• Meet regularly with HR and office leaders to develop and advance office level DOC plan

• Develop and support delivery of special events and activities in the region

• Support implementation of site level health and safety standards

• Deliver core trainings on a rotating basis and by request

• Promote staff wellbeing and staff health content through a wide variety of creative methods

• Coordinate with vendors on training delivery, translation, and materials development

• Ensure excellent knowledge management for DOC products across languages

• Travel to field sites in the US to deliver training and engage with staff on their needs

• Support the relevant goals of Employee Resource Groups through training and activity support

• Partner with office leaders, Safety and Security, and HR Leaders after critical incidents to support their development of comprehensive support plans for affected staff and managers

• Facilitate requests for group counseling sessions made by site level leaders with counseling vendor

• Orient and support leadership in interpreting IRC policies related to infectious disease exposures, outbreak, and natural disasters

• Meet with employees who wish to have support with staff health or staff wellbeing matters and provide orientation to the ways in which IRC services, benefits, resources can assist them

• Develop DOC policy and training materials

• Collaborate with other People & Culture and Organizational partners on shared objectives (Ex: GEDI, Safeguarding, S&S, HR Fundamentals, Learning & Development, etc.)

• Liaise with local vendors

• Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, public health, or nursing. Masters preferred

Work Experience: Experience working in international development or humanitarian assistance organizations. Significant leadership experience in programs (Ex: health, public health, MHPSS)

  • Excellence in training development, facilitation, and crisis response
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills including active listening, emotional de-escalation, and compassion
  • Have a good understanding of the healthcare system in the United States
  • Service-orientation
  • Excellent project management and knowledge management
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to prioritize and deliver on time
  • Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic, cross-functional team structure
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to handle and work through change in a proactive and positive manner.

Language Skills: Fluency in English required; proficiency in Spanish desirable

Working Environment: The position is remote within the continental US, with occasional travel required up to 20% of the time to field sites and program offices in the US.
