Psychologist – MAURITANIA At RET International

General Responsibilities

  • Providing individual therapy to people with psychosocial needs, focusing on improving mental wellbeing and decision making.
  • Facilitate group sessions to address common issues, such as gender-based violence, and promote mental health and self-care.
  • Promote resilience, self-esteem and stress management among participants.
  • Contribute to group workshops aimed at providing psychosocial support to adolescents and young adults.
  • Support the implementation of the art therapy program and cognitive, emotional and social development for children with disabilities, promoting their development and socialization.
  • Support workshops for parents and guardians on positive parenting, stress management and non-violent discipline techniques.
  • Host community forums to discuss issues of concern, particularly those related to gender-based violence.
  • Conduct situational analyses and collaborate in planning intervention strategies.
  • Train women leaders in psychosocial support and gender-based violence to strengthen the community response.
  • Organize training sessions on menstrual hygiene for girls and young mothers, including the production of reusable products.
  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of recreational activities and psychosocial support to promote personal development and social interaction.
  • Participate in training programs on psychological support techniques and contribute to staff training.
  • Document and report psychological support activities and progress, adapting strategies based on feedback and emerging needs.

Qualifications and experience required

  • At least a bachelor’s or master’s degree in psychology or psychological counseling and guidance.
    • Prior knowledge of humanitarian principles, conflict, displaced persons, refugees and protection frameworks.
    • Previous experience working with children, young people and refugees is an asset.
    • Prior knowledge of the region and community you will be working with is an asset.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work with diverse groups of people.
    • Excellent dynamic facilitation skills, both individually and in groups.
    • Strong organizational skills and flexibility, particularly regarding working hours.
    • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.

LANGUAGES

  • Fluency in French and, preferably, knowledge of English.
