WORKING CONTEXT
CESVI has a historical presence in Sicily with projects located mainly in Syracuse and more recently in Catania. On the territory CESVI carries out projects in two areas: paths for the socio-economic inclusion of minors and young migrants; interventions to prevent and combat child abuse and educational poverty. These are projects financed by institutional donors, foundations and companies, managed in partnership with other Third Sector organizations, currently rooted in the territories of Catania and Syracuse.
In 2022 CESVI launched the “ Case del Sorriso ” program in Italy with objectives of preventing and combating educational poverty and social isolation of minors and vulnerable families, offering spaces for opportunities and aggregation, and safe places for reception and listening. The Case del Sorriso ( CdS ) are now in Milan, Syracuse, Naples and Bari, and CESVI operates in partnership with third sector organizations operating for years in the various territories, and dialogue with schools, public bodies and the private social sector to strengthen the network.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Project Manager is part of the CESVI National Programs Unit and – in coordination with the Manager Area – will take care of writing, implementation, supervision and monitoring of CESVI projects in eastern Sicily.
The Project Manager will mainly collaborate with colleagues from the National Programs Unit ( mainly with Area Manager, Admin Coordinator Area, Project Officer in Sicily, CdS Program Manager ) and, when requested, with other internal functions of CESVI such as – for example – the teams of the Fundraising and Communication Unit, the Protection and Safeguarding Senior Specialist.
The Project Manager:
- will be Territorial Referent of CESVI in Sicily;
- will be responsible for managing the CESVI ( Casa del Sorriso operational headquarters in Syracuse ).
The Project Manager will mainly work from his home ( Syracuse or Catania and province ) with the possibility of working in other places indicated by CESVI, making himself available to participate in meetings in the presence with the partners of Catania and Syracuse.
The Project Manager will also be asked to periodically go to the CESVI offices in Bergamo or Milan for coordination meetings, meeting staff and trainings.
In more detail, the Project Manager:
- it is the interface between territorial partners of CESVI projects in Sicily and CESVI HQ.
- is responsible for coordinating CESVI projects in Sicily in all its phases.
- constantly relates to local public and private stakeholders for the definition of strategic partnerships for the organization in Syracuse and Catania
- deals with the daily operational support of the partners of CESVI projects in Sicily for the implementation of the projects and their correct reporting.
- project monitoring and reporting: facilitates partners in the use of M&E tools; monitors the application of donor / funding rules and procedures for projects ( or CESVI ); supervises the technical-narrative and financial reports of the projects managed by CESVI lead and its partners ( intermediate and final ); operational support in the use of the CESVI web platform for reporting.
- participates in the design process for the consolidation and development of the CdS program in collaboration with the Focal Point for design, the other colleagues of Units involved and the partner in Syracuse.
- supports the organization of and participates in field visit conducted by CESVI together with donor and / or media at the Casa del Sorriso in Syracuse or in other places in CESVI operates in eastern Sicily.
- participates in meetings, meetings, work tables in the two territories with different types of stakeholders: formal project partners, network partners, public and private actors potentially interested in collaborating with CESVI.
The collaboration will begin in January 2024.
For programmatic reasons it is preferable that the Project Manager resides in Syracuse or Catania.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Degree in social, economic, political or related sciences
- Previous experience in project management in the third sector
- Skills in managing and reviewing project budgets
- Skills in the field of project monitoring
- Skills in narrative and financial reporting
- Capacity building skills of public bodies and social private individuals
- Previous experience in the development and management of institutional relations at local level
- Ability to write new project proposals to be presented to institutional and private donors
- Previous experience in project / program management with MSNA and young migrants in Italy
- Propensity for dialogue, collaboration and co-design with different types of stakeholders: subjects belonging to strategic partners of CESVI who collaborate with the organization in the implementation of projects ( coordinators, multidisciplinary teams ); public / private social subjects belonging to the network / specific partnerships such as municipalities, schools, associations etc.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
- Previous experience in project / program management with minors and vulnerable adults, and educational poverty in Italy
- Knowledge of the mechanisms of social cooperation, local social services and the dynamics of collaboration with the third sector in the context of intervention of the assigned projects ( Catania and Syracuse )
- Knowledge of the funding rules of the main Italian public and private institutional donors
- Fundraising elements from private / corporate donors / foundations
- Familiarity with communication / visibility methods and tools
