Professional (f/m/x) for adapted technologies (housing, energy) for rural regions in Ecuador At Dienste in Übersee


Background

Fundación Ecuatoriana del Hábitat (Funhabit) was founded in 1984 and is committed to implementing a sustainable and resource-saving concept for integrated rural housing and habitat improvement for smallholder and indigenous communities. The fields of work are agro-ecological farming with a focus on soil protection and conservation, traditional technologies and alternative construction measures as well as ecological sanitation and organisational development. In this context, Funhabit also supports the participation of the target groups in public policy.

Job Scope

As a professional, you will support Funhabit in qualifying its work, especially in the areas of adapted building techniques with local materials and climate-neutral, healthy energy production. Through your experience with environmentally friendly, resource-saving and adapted technologies, you will contribute to sustainably improving the infrastructure of the living spaces in the Andean and subtropical zones of the administrative district of Cotopaxi.

The office is located in Pugili, Ecuador. Business trips, especially to the cooperating communities, are part of the work.

In particular, you will be responsible for the following:

  • You will support the development of studies to assess the communities´ needs and possible solutions
  • You will support the participatory development of adapted and locally implementable solutions and measures regarding alternative, sustainable and environmentally-friendly technologies that meet the needs of the target groups in various identified areas (e.g. construction of housing, energy production, infrastructure, agro-ecological production, etc.)
  • You will provide support to families in the implementation of these solutions
  • You will plan and accompany processes for the exchange of experiences of participating communities among each other as well as with Funhabit
  • You will use participatory methods to plan and design process evaluations of the measures/solutions implemented
  • You will support the documentation and media presentation of best practice examples and the conception of trainings

Profile

  • You have a Master’s degree in civil engineering, architecture, energy technology, environmental technology, social sciences or a comparable field of study with relevant further education
  • You have at least two years of relevant professional experience including practical experience with relevant technical know-how, e.g. regarding alternative construction techniques, generation of clean energy (solar, wind, hydraulic, biomass) for application in remote residential areas and production units
  • Practical experience with income-generating activities in rural areas is desirable
  • You have access to a diverse repertoire of participatory methods and experience in designing workshops
  • Your work experience abroad (ideally in Latin America), your pleasure in solution-oriented teamwork, your diplomatic sensitivity and your communication skills predestine you to accompany participatory processes in an intercultural and indigenous context
  • Your work is characterised by gender-sensitive communication
  • In addition to business fluent Spanish, you also have business fluent English or German skills

Citizenship of a Member State of the European Union or Switzerland is required.
