Migrant Protection Assistant (2 positions) At International Organization for Migration


Organizational Scope & Context:

Under the overall supervision of the Project Officer (MPA) and the direct supervision of the Senior Migrant Protection Assistant – Intake and Outreach, the successful candidate will be assisting in coordinating registration, intake, and outreach procedures, for assistance to victims of trafficking, vulnerable migrants and those migrants who are vulnerable to exploitation. The program assistant is expected to carry out his/her duties in accordance with strictest moral and ethical standards and with due respect for gender and socio-cultural differences of the victims.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

1. Contact vulnerable beneficiaries and fill out required forms to complete the registration

procedure (verification/ mass import and other forms as needed).

2. Assist with cross-checking with concerned counterpart to verify the information of the

registered beneficiaries and refer for social screening if cases met IOM eligibility criteria.

3. Coordinate NFIs referrals of vulnerable migrants from community leaders and other

counterparts.

4. Coordinate with the logistics team the procurement and distribution of NFIs to vulnerable

communities.

5. Collect needed signatures during the distribution process and finalize all administrative

procedures related to the distribution.

6. Update the NFIs database with the records of the migrants who received NFIs.

7. Conduct post-distribution surveys to migrants who received NFIs.

8. Respect IOM’s Data Protection Principles when gathering data on behalf of the organization, ensure all

data are kept safe and confidential.

9. Report daily the activities conducted, and the realities/issues encountered to the project

officer and make relevant recommendations.

10. Assist in coordinating outreach events with vulnerable migrants’ communities.

11. Handle walk-ins and hotline inquiries in accordance with the intake team guidelines.

12. Perform other duties as they might be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a community work related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or,
  • Secondary School Education with a minimum of four years of experience in a community work-related field, with relevant qualifications.

Experience

  • Experience in working with governmental and diplomatic authorities as well as with international organizations an advantage.
  • Experience working with Excel and databases.
  • Thorough and demonstrable knowledge of migration issues and how these may impact the vulnerability of a person.
  • Sound technical knowledge of models of community work and development preferably Asset Based Community Development.
  • Previous experience in International Organizations and development/humanitarian sector.
  • Experience in working with migrants and/or refugees.
  • Experience in the usage of office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and knowledge of spreadsheet and data analysis.
  • Previous experience in administration work.
  • Experience in process and/or event management.
  • Proven, very good working knowledge of ICT (related software, email, the internet) and computer applications.
  • In depth knowledge of the migration related subject areas dealt with by the Organization.
  • Knowledge of UN and/or bilateral donor programming.
  • Knowledge of admin rules and regulations.
  • Proven communication skills.
  • Proven ability to express oneself professionally both verbally and in writing; polished, target-group oriented style.
  • Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with the management.
