Elijah Cummings House Divided As Daughter and Widow Struggle For Power, Elijah Cummings‘ widow Maya Rockeymoore Cummings announced mid November she will run for her late husband’s seat in Congress.

Now However, the daughters of Rep. Cummings will not be among her supporters. In addition, one of the first challenges Rockeymoore will likely face is questions regarding her unresolved charity scandal.

Also Maya Cummings’ “nonprofit group received over $6.2 million in grants between 2013 & 2016 from special interest groups & corporations….[including] Google, J.P. Morgan, & Prudential, [which] have business interests before” the congressional committee that Rep. Cummings chairs.

According to USA Today reports, the daughters of the late Rep. Elijah Cummings chose not to support their father’s widow in the crowded special election to fill his seat, and have instead endorsed one of his former staffers.

Now Jennifer Cummings said she and her younger sister, Adia Cummings, “are supporting Harry Spikes for Congress because for the past 15 years he’s worked alongside our father,” in a statement quoted by The Washington Post.

Speaking “Harry knows this community,” wrote the eldest daughter of the man who represented Maryland’s 7th Congressional District for more than 23 years.

“Our father often said of himself that he was ‘an ordinary man called to an extraordinary mission,’ and Harry embodies that same spirit.”

Furthermore Spikes “has the unique ability to build a multi-generational and diverse coalition of support” and “represents that next generation of leadership,” she said in the statement, which was also shared with The Baltimore Sun.

Both Jennifer and Adia Cummings spoke their father’s funeral, which included remarks from former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.
