Fondation Hirondelle is a Swiss non-profit organization that provides information to populations in fragile contexts, to enable them to act in their daily and civic lives. Created in 1995 and based in Lausanne, Fondation Hirondelle is currently active in 10 countries on 3 continents.
Job Objective
The editorial manager embodies the editorial line of the new Hirondelle Foundation project in Chad. Their main objective is to guarantee optimal quality of the media product and in particular audience success and impact. They actively contribute to the selection, initial and ongoing training (coaching), as well as the management of the team of journalists, permanent or seconded by the local media partners, who will ensure the production of information and programs within the framework of the project. They are responsible for planning their work as well as coordinating the resources available, particularly on a technical level. They contribute to defining the programs that will be produced and its clock as well as its broadcast schedule within the media partners of the project. They ensure the control of productions before / after broadcast. They draw the necessary lessons from this monitoring and explain them to the journalists concerned for the implementation of improvements. They provide long-term coaching work for the journalists and media partners of the project. He/she leads training courses and coordinates the definition of the training plan, for which he/she also defines and coordinates the interventions of external trainers. He/she contributes to the development of the production and digital broadcasting strategy of the programs with the necessary expertise. He/she develops and maintains relationships / collaborations with other Chadian media.
The Editorial Manager works under the authority of the National Representative of the Hirondelle Foundation in Chad, and the Editorial Manager of the Hirondelle Foundation based at the headquarters in Lausanne.
The profile sought:
- You are a journalist or have recently worked in journalism for at least 7 to 10 years, ideally in radio
- You have a perfect command of the digital tools useful for the production and distribution of journalistic content. You have worked in Africa, in fragile contexts, ideally in Chad or knowledge of this country and the Sahelian context.
- You have managed/coordinated editorial/production and information processing teams, ideally in the radio and digital fields
- You have organized/led training courses and/or provided coaching to journalists in Africa, ideally in the Sahel region – Chad a plus
- You have a solid editorial vision that you know how to express and implement, while having the ability to propose innovations
- You have proven teaching skills
- You know how to resist pressure and manage stress, while having a sense of priorities and pragmatism
- You have a perfect command of the French language and strong writing skills.
