II. Organizational Context and Scope

In response to complex migration dynamics, and in recognition of the gaps and challenges in effective collection, analysis and dissemination of migration data in Central America, North America and Caribbean, IOM´s Regional Office in San José, Costa Rica (RO San José) seeks to provide enhanced, coordinated and sustained support to both IOM country offices (COs) and Member States and other key stakeholders in the region in order to advance migration-related data and information activities, in line with the Global Compact for Migration (GCM), the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda (SDA) and IOM’s Migration Data Strategy released in June 2020.

Under the general supervision of the Senior Regional Liaison and Policy Officer and direct supervision the Regional Migration Data Coordinator, the administrative data analyst will support a range of migration data initiatives.

III. Responsibilities and Accountabilities

1. Systematically collect and compile migration data from wide range of sources including government agencies, international organizations, NGOs, among others.

2. Ensure that the data are properly stored with a view towards producing timely and visually impactful reports and enabling comparisons and trend analyses.

3. Regularly produce presentations, information materials, analyses and reports such as monthly situation reports, country info sheets, among others.

4. Liaise with country offices and respond to ad-hoc queries on administrative data and other official sources.

5. Provide technical support to initiatives and projects of other units and country offices.

6. Serve as the focal point for SDG indicators and encourage their systematic use including in Common Country Analyses UN Sustainable Development Frameworks.

7. Gather, prepare and upload contents to the RO San Jose website.

8. Assist in conducting trainings to strengthen migration data management capacities in country offices, government agencies, and civil society organizations, among others.

9. Liaise with and develop partnerships with relevant external counterparts.

10. Participate in working group meetings, joint analysis activities, inter-institutional coordination meetings, among others.

11. Provide inputs for the development of Standard Operations Procedures (SOP) and concept papers and provide general support for the development of new projects.

12. Assist in migration research, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, and report writing across a wide range of migration topics, including migration health and protection mainstreaming.

13. Perform other related duties as assigned.

IV. Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  •  Highschool degree with six years of relevant professional experience.

OR

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Public Health or related fields from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

  •  Experience in data collection and analysis, research, and report writing;
  •  Experience in quantitative and qualitative data analysis and visualization tools;
  •  Prior work experience with international humanitarian/development organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is a distinct advantage;
  •  Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations;
  •  Experience in relevant issues such as migration, displacement, and humanitarian assistance would be an asset;
