Over the past 2 years, Oxfam has been going through internal changes that aim to transform the way the organization operates on the Africa continent. This included the merging of three regional platforms on the sub-Sahara continent We received the final approval to implement the proposal of the one Africa Platform in October 2021. On April 3, 2023, Oxfam in Africa went live.
It has been a long change journey and it’s time to make time to rest, reflect and learn. Change is painful and can have tremendous effect on staff. As we begin this new phase for Oxfam in Africa, we want to be intentional at creating safe spaces for staff to reflect, learn and bond as one team.
Purpose of this ToR
To seek an experienced Facilitator to supports Oxfam in Africa Leadership Team to hold a staff retreat in October 2023.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON THE PURPOSE OF THE RETREAT
This retreat will create the space for the team to celebrate, have the needed conversation and interactions among the team, learn and co-create new ways of working for Oxfam in Africa staff.
Specifically,
- Allow the team to celebrate the implementation of the new platform to recognize their hard work and dedication to Oxfam in Africa.
- Create a safe space for staff to reflect and share learning on the change process.
- Offer the space for staff to work through and agree some ways of working to guide different teams.
- Opportunity to get to know each other, engage in team building activities to help bond as OiA Team.
- It will also be an opportunity to share best practice on staff wellbeing.
- Provide a space to help the new leadership team to reflect on the change journey, take stock, review unresolved challenges and chart a way forward plan. Also, to test, learn and adapt approach and ways of working as leadership team.
Participants:
- All staff on One Africa Platform
- Change Team & Facilitator
- CDs of countries and SAF cluster Director – via zoom.
- Other members of OI (HR, Business Operations, Programmes)
DURATION OF ASSIgNMENT
Expecting a total of eight working days:
- Two planning meetings with planning committee/SLT
- One meeting with Head of HR and Change Manager
- Four working days of facilitating
- Plus, preparation and report writing time.
ScOPE OF WORK AND DELIvERABLES
- Preparation of Retreat Programme: Work closely with the change manager, Head of People and Culture and the retreat planning committee to develop a comprehensive program outline for the retreat. This should include team building activities, PowerPoint Slides to guide content and discussions and preparing learning questions and evaluations.
- Facilitating the Retreat: Adapting Oxfam feminists’ principles and values to guide conversations among staff. Apply facilitations skills such as timekeeping, following an agreed-upon agenda, keeping a clear record, managing the group and its individuals in light of group dynamics, active listening and guiding the activities and conversations throughout the week. Facilitate and shift efforts in various days to ensure progress is made on identified strategic goals through the convergence of Oxfam’s purpose and values.
- Reporting: Preparing a report of the retreat with the change manager.
SPEcIFIcATIONS
- A minimum of 10 years of experience with demonstrated success in orchestrating organizational development, leadership development and change management are required.
- Experience in facilitating such events in large multi-cultural organizations like Oxfam.
- Experience in the design and conduct of effective and measurable Organizational Development interventions.
- Experienced executive coach.
- Exceptional communication skills and experience managing expectations while working with Senior Leadership.
- Ability to communicate in English and French will be an asset.
