Job Description

Background

BACKGROUND

In order to reduce its recruitment times to meet its driver needs throughout the national territory, the UNDP is launching a recruitment of several ( drivers from all localities combined ).

Under the direction and supervision of the Travel Assistant, the requested Driver, as required, provides reliable and safe driving services, ensuring high work accuracy. He demonstrates a client-oriented approach, a high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural origins.

The driver provides driving services to the operations and programs staff of the Country Office, consultants and experts and United Nations personnel on mission.

Duties and Responsibilities

Summary of Key Functions :

Under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, the ( the ) driver ( e ) must provide transportation for project staff, consultants and experts. To this end, he or she must :

  •  Maintain the vehicle made available to it and ensure the transport of personnel ;
  •  Ensure reliable and secure travel ;
  •  Ensure proper use of the vehicle ;
  •  Ensure daily maintenance of the vehicle ;
  •  Maintain and ensure the availability of all necessary documents / supplies ;
  •  Provide general administrative and logistical support as required.

1- Ensure reliable and secure trips. In this context, the ( the ) driver ( e ) must :

  •  Drive authorized personnel ;
  •  Distribute and retrieve letters, documents and other objects ;
  •  Check that all passengers wear seat belts in the vehicle at all times ;
  •  Ensure that all measures required by the procedures and regulations in force are taken in the event of involvement in an accident ;
  •  Ensure that the vehicle complies with minimum operational safety standards.

2- Ensure proper use of the vehicle. The ( the ) driver ( e ) must :

  •  Adopt and maintain Eco-responsible behavior while driving ;
  •  Maintain: vehicle logbooks, daily distance traveled, fuel consumption, oil draining, maintenance, lubrication, repairs ;
  •  Fill in the logbook with each trip and have any transported person targeted daily ;
  •  Have the logbook signed weekly by the supervisor ;
  •  Regularly fill in the vehicle’s fuel sheets ;
  •  Monitor the remaining fuel level on the fuel supply cards and give the alert in time for their replenishments ;
  •  Contribute to the preparation of plans and monitoring / vehicle maintenance reports.

3- Ensure daily maintenance of the vehicle. The ( the ) driver ( e ) must :

  •  Ensure that the vehicle is kept clean and permanently in good working order ;
  •  Make minor repairs and make arrangements for major repairs ;
  •  Change the oil, check the tires, horn, clutch and brakes and clean the vehicle daily.

4- Maintain and ensure the availability of all necessary documents / supplies.

The ( the ) driver ( e ) must :

  •  Maintain and ensure the availability of all necessary documents / supplies, including vehicle insurance, vehicle logbooks, call tree and Office contacts, the country map and intervention areas, the first aid kit and the necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle ;
  •  Ensure that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in the event of involvement in accidents.

5- Provide general administrative and logistical support as needed.

  •  Provide support for the execution of all other tasks.

Driver

  •  Excellent driving skills
  •  Good knowledge of rules of conduct, traffic code and local conditions
  •  Good defensive driving skills
  •  Skills in minor vehicle repairs

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  •  Have the BEPC or equivalent ;
  •  Valid driver’s license B, knowledge of the highway code and ability to perform minor auto repairs.

Experience:

  •  Have at least 2 years of professional experience in driving a vehicle ;
  •  Have knowledge of mechanics
  •  Express yourself fluently in French ;
  •  Being a driver in a project is an asset.

Language requirements: Have a perfect command of French ( written and oral )
