Overview:
The African Risk Capacity (ARC) is a specialized agency of the African Union (AU) established to help African Union Member States improve their capacities to better plan, prepare and respond to extreme weather events and natural disasters. ARC achieves this by providing African countries with parametric insurance products and other risk management tools.
ARC Ltd is the mutual insurance company of ARC and the leading African specialist in climate-related parametric insurance.
The United States Department States has provided ARC Ltd with a 3-year federal award to strengthen food security across Africa and increase the capacity of African governments to support climate resilience amongst small-holder rain-fed farmers in their respective jurisdictions through the provision of parametric insurance mechanisms that build the capacity of African governments to better manage climate change-induced risks to food security.
Role Summary:
The Business Development Lead will work closely with the ARC Ltd’s Head of Business Development and other relevant stakeholders to support the development and implementation of ARC Ltd’s business development strategy in East and Southern Africa. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, building relationships with potential partners, and promoting ARC Ltd ‘s products and services to governments, international organizations, private sector entities, and other relevant stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct market research and analysis to identify new business opportunities and potential clients.
- Develop and implement strategies to expand ARC Ltd’s product and service offerings and promote the organization’s brand.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, international organizations, private sector entities, and other relevant partners.
- Conduct training on micro and meso insurance with policymakers and key stakeholders
- Prepare and deliver presentations to promote ARC Ltd’s products and services to potential clients and partners.
- Work with the Head of Business Development to develop and manage project proposals and budgets.
- Support the development and implementation of ARC Ltd’s communications and outreach strategy, including developing marketing materials, organizing events and workshops, and managing social media and other communication channels.
- Monitor and report on market trends to inform ARC Ltd’s business development strategy.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, insurance, economics, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of five years of experience in business development, marketing, or related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and partners.
- Experience working in Africa, with knowledge of the African development and/or (micro)insurance landscape.
- Knowledge of climate risk management and/or disaster risk reduction preferred.
- Fluency in both French and English required.
