Bill Clinton Sex Scandal Whistle-blower Linda Tripp Dies.
Linda Tripp, whose secretly recorded conversations with WH intern Monica Lewinsky led to the 1998 impeachment of President Bill Clinton, has died at the age of 70.
According to Wikipedia:
“Tripp was an American civil servant who played a prominent role in the Bill Clinton–Lewinsky scandal of 1998. Tripp’s action in secretly recording Monica Lewinsky’s confidential phone calls about her relationship with the president caused a sensation with their links to the earlier Clinton v. Jones lawsuit and with the disclosing of intimate details.
Tripp claimed that her motives were purely patriotic, and she was able to avoid a wiretap charge in exchange for handing in the tapes. She then claimed that her firing from the Pentagon at the end of the Bill Clinton admin was vindictive, while the administration called it standard procedure for a political appointee.”
in the early years of Mr Clinton’s presidency, Linda Tripp was a secretary in the White House counsel’s office before she was transferred to the Pentagon’s public affairs office and befriended Lewinsky, 24 years her junior.
As the two became close and Lewinsky revealed her past sexual relationship with Bill Clinton, Linda Tripp began recording their private telephone conversations in which Lewinsky documented her affair with the president in graphic detail.
The WH secretary became forever linked with the sex scandal and almost Bill Clinton’s presidency to an end.
When news of Tripp being ‘near death’ broke, Lewinsky, 46, acknowledged Tripp in her own social media message on Wednesday.
‘No matter the past, upon hearing that linda tripp is very seriously ill, i hope for her recovery,’ Lewinsky tweeted. ‘I can’t imagine how difficult this is for her family.’
