Context:

Under the overall supervision of the Head, Common Services and direct supervision of the Fleet and Mailroom Supervisor, the Driver will perform the following duties:

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Drive official vehicles, in particular for Director General (DG) and Deputy Director Generals(DDGs).
  2. Transport staff members, official visitors, and members of delegations to and from the airportor hotels or during conferences to and from the United Nations Buildings and IOM.
  3. Deliver requests for visas to consulates or embassies and collect approved visas for deliveryto the persons concerned. In addition, collect air or train tickets from agencies/stations and deliver, when required, urgent documents or air tickets to permanent missions or any International Organization, and collect and deliver mail and packages to and from the Post Office
  4. Deliver and collect equipment, mails, United Nations laissez-passer (UNLP) passports to orfrom United Nations Buildings. In addition, transport equipment and documents during conferences and collect goods from contractors or cash from banks.
  5. Keep the logbook of the official vehicle and when required complete accident reports. Ensure that the vehicle is kept clean and in good working order through minor maintenance.

As required:

  1. Assist the mail room in preparing diplomatic pouches, delivering the mail within IOM premises, preparing envelopes, packages and boxes for dispatch and all other requested duties.
  2. Perform other duties as required, including delivering coffee trolleys to meeting rooms.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

  • High school degree/certificate with minimum three years of relevant working experience; or,
  • Bachelor’s Degree with minimum one year of relevant working experience from an accredited institution.
  • Valid national driver’s licence.

Experience

  • Three years (one year for bachelor’s degree holders) of working experience as a driver in a transport or taxi company; and,
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.

Skills

  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations;
  • Skills in minor vehicle repairs; and,
  • Knowledge of radio, email, telephone, and other applications.

Languages

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish. All staff members are required to be fluent in one of the three languages.

For this position, fluency in English and French are required (oral and written). Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

This selection process may be used to staff similar positions in various departments. Recommended candidates endorsed by the Appointments and Postings Board will remain eligible to be appointed in a similar position for a period of 24 months.

This will be verified as part of the medical clearance process.
